You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I was about to purchase an Ebike this morning, I can only find one about six hours away. My wife is on the overlap between sizes, pretty sure we have got the right size...if not, the shop are happy to take a return but I need to arrange the courier, they are unwilling to charge me for their contracted courier to collect from me.
They have suggested Paisley Freight for about £30, but I've just compared their price compared to an unboxing video of the bike, the box looks to be about 150x200x30cm and probably weighs over 30kg with the packaging and charger. Paisley recommended their pallet service but they are busy and are not quoting for pallet shipping!
If anyone has posted an Ebike in its manufacturers box (i.e. 90% assembled and almost ready to ride...as I'm not sure the bike would want a smaller box with a fully dismantled bike in it) please could you share? For the size, weight and value I'm expecting the cost to be pretty steep but I'd just like to know where I stand, otherwise I could face a 14 hour round trip to take it back!
I've shipped a couple of non-ebikes with Paisley Freight and, fully insured, the cost was closer to £45 than £30.
I would strongly advise using anyone but Paisly, ended up taking them to court (although they backed down the day before the hearing and settled), terrible experience with them and I dont think I'm alone in that.
No idea about ebike boxes, sorry.
Personally id rather make the 12+ hour round trip now with the wife to make sure its the correct size rather than having it delivered and then finding out its the wrong size and have the faff of returning the bike
Can you not make the trip a day out and go do something in the local area with the wife?
Ive done that a few times when collecting large expensive parts from people who dont like to ship
I dont trust any of the couriers to deliver a bike undamaged, my Canyon arrived in Canyon's special bike box which they charge you for as it protects the bike better than a normal bike box
The bike still arrived damaged, big hole punched in the box, damaged carbon seatstay
Canyon's policy is to return the bike and they issue a refund then you have to order again, no just swapping it for another one so a right faff
As above, I would make it a day out and try it first.
Thanks guys, we had considered putting a deposit down and changing holiday destination next month... However I think the moment may have passed in favour of a Fazua hardtail unless the shop decides to help with arranging a return in the unlikely event it doesn't fit.
Funny how you have been debating for ages, commit and ring the shop, only for something like this to stall progress for a few hours and start reconsidering!
I really would try to buy locally with an ebike - they’re very complex! My Levo has been very reliable for 2.5 years / 4000km but this week it’s done an odd thing not wanting to switch on at first, though it’s worked after a few attempts. Will pop into the shop I got it from (right by work) next week to let them have a look.
