So I have a front dynamo hub setup which uses an SP hub and a B&M e-werk with a cache battery. This has been faultless on a number of extended trips. I am now thinking that I'd like to incorporate an exposure revo and SON tail light into the system, but to do that I need to be able split the output of the dynamo and to be able to turn it on or off so I can divert the feed.
Just wondering what options are available as I'm the K-Lite switch is £75 (cough, cough)
I managed to knock up a cable with a switch for about £10 worth of cables etc, got some pre-glued heatshrink and managed to make it pretty neat and it should also be watertight. Have plenty of cable and connectors left over to make more.
Soldering is pretty straight forward and you can customise the cable length to be nice and neat.
If you do wire in a switch then just make sure you don't use the switch at high dynamo speeds (high road speed) - maybe above 15mph. The sudden switching of load will cause a voltage spike from the dynamo that can (and has) fried Revo lights.
No idea about the switch. But if you are intending this to be for on road don't get a revo it's rubbish as a road light unless you like blinding the drivers coming towards you.
You don't need a switch, you can get piggyback connectors at the hub and just connect both at the hub. If you get the revo you can just unplug the light when you want to charge something. That's what I do and it works fine.
Unless you want the switch for it being more convenient.
