Anyone planning on doing this on Sunday? Never done it before and hardly done any training so think three laps might be pushing it for me !!
Heard it’s a great event though
will the weather allow for such an event?
looks like you can do 1,2 or 3 laps, so if you start struggling... bail.
I was talking to someone late last year who has done it, and was raving about it. Statements such as "So much fun" "Really friendly" "Just great" had me drawn in for a while, then came the talk of mud, wind, rain. Apparently, those things add to the fun, but with my fitness level I decided I would die so didn't enter. Like many of these things..........there is always next year 🙂
I'm doing it for the first time this year, well hoping to but will see how weather effects things. The goal is 3 laps, those I'm doing it with are planning on 2 laps so might be a solo final lap but looks like it should be fun.
Its bloody hard work with an awful lot of climbing, mainly fire roads which can be insanely draggy in the wet. I've done all of them bar one, you will get very wet, it will be bloody freezing, you will be very muddy and the fast lads at the front are FAST.
Do the cord y brenin version in 3 weeks instead! It’s practically summer by that point

Well this sounds interesting *Goes to sign up for something else he isn't prepared for*
Calm yourself on the 1st climb, it goes on and on. Plus a lot of xc racers use it to test themselves, so the pace at the front is full on.
Its going to be wet, theres always standing water even if it's not raining.
Most of the climbing is on fire roads so can be exposed to the wind.
The downs are on dyfi single track. Nice.
Theres no real finish, you just do your laps and head back to the car.
3 laps will be err... character building on Sunday I think.
The event has a great vibe and is a good laugh. I keep going back for more
I guess everyone who posted on here didn't survive or is still recovering / drying out?
That was the wettest "warmer" I've ever done and the first time Carl has called a stop to it after the "leader" completed their 3 laps, he normally lets people wander round well after they've gone through.
I rode it 4 or 5 years ago, when it was hammering with rain in the valley, and snow on the hill. We were soaked through by the time we reached the climb because of standing water on the road, even with full waterproofs. I pulled out after a lap because of the cold. Some of my group did 2 laps, one coming back borderline hypothermic and finding that he'd forgotten his dry clothes. I remember one guy shaking so badly as he walked across the cafe that most of his coffee ended up on the floor. I remember barely anything about the trails. 😀
edit: I just remembered chickening out of riding down a steep bank - nothing more difficult than that - because my fingers were so frozen that I couldn't guarantee how much brake I was going to apply!
I survived, i think.
By Wales in Feb standards it technically wasn't raining at the start. But by the end of lap 1....
It wasn't cold and the wind wasn't a head wind all the time. But me and the lad had a good day. it was the 1st event i'd done since the last DWWU in 2020, so felt good to out meeting mates and chatting to random MTB nutters who like that sort of thing.
Plus its only 11 months til the next one:-)
