Its not too early for this is it? (Or has it been done?)
Getting excited now 🙂

Number 72, ti Voodoo hardtail with a Rohly. Running tubeless tyres this year so hopefully you won't see me on the trailside.

It'll be my 11th one (missed 2004 & 2005 as I was in NZ). I'll keep coming back for as long as it keeps going.

Yup, I'm a late and unprepared entry thanks to a forum member. A bit worried about the stories of endless fireroad climbs and getting held up on the downs, the bit I'm best at..
Still, looks like a great event, so looking forward to being a part of it...

No 111, riding a Whyte E120 (with creaking bottom bracket, no doubt). My first Dyfi.

Did a Tough Mudder on Saturday, so hoping that I'll be able to walk again by the weekend.

I'm in. Didn't make it to the trails last year as my chainring bent on the road, hoping to get a bit further than that this year.

No 492, my first Dyfi - Giant Anthem (setup tubeless) - been watching a few videos on YouTube of past events and see endless people by the trailside repairing punctures, so bringing plenty of innertubes...

Wow, 3 first timers. Enjoy!
By far and away, the most well-organised event I've ever done. Sausage rolls and free beer? Perfect.

Misterduncan get the creaking BB fixed it will drive you bonkers.

I know as I spent most of the 2007 Dyfi saying sorry to those close by as my Kona Kikawhatsit had a creaking shock bush that was like fingernails down a blackboard by the end.

It's in the shop as we speak. My previous three attempts to fix it have failed.

The forecast looks good (at the moment)

This will be my 5th Dyfi in 6 years. Biggest ride this year so far has been 22 miles and about a 1/3 of the elevation so I'm expecting to struggle (again) this year!

Recently built up a new Cotic Soul and I'm torn between taking that to make the climbs a bit easier, or my trusty slightly heavier Five and have more fun on the downhills...or put the Crests from the Soul on the Five to make it a bit lighter...or put the Revs from the Five on the Soul to make it better for the descents...blah blah #1stworldproblems

I'm doing it for the first time - can't wait. It's also my first ever mass-ride / race. I'm hoping there will be lots of others who don't consider it a race!

What's the on-site catering like for supper / cooked breakfasts?

Cheers

IMO you'll have just as much fun on the downs on a hardtail orena45. You may not go as fast but you can still get wild!

I'm in - with 2 others, one of whom has never ridden a mountain bike before - he may die 😕

Anyone had a sniff of whether Peaty's new film will be screened?

No. 113

I'll be on my Whyte 909 27.5" trail hardtail. Really looking forward to it. Minion DHF on the front and a 2.1" Crossmark on the back for rolling speed, both setup tubeless.

I've got to try and beat my 79th place finish from last year now. This could hurt.

No 43. My first time too. I've done the Coed Y Brenin one the last couple of years but my first dyfi. Did 32 miles yesterday with 3000ft of climbing so some form of training.

Will be on a Bright Orange Orange Alpine 160 with loads of Hope Purple goodies so should stand out!

Anyway, looking forward to it. Should be a great event.

I'll be there with the family camping in the van, but only me riding. I'm number 192 and riding my XC whippet Specialized Pitch with Lyriks and those terribly unfashionable and obsolete 29 inch wheel.

I think I'm fitter than last year and have for once managed to actually get out for some rides in day light of a reasonable distance.

Looking forward to the beer tent and the free bar near the end  I imagine any sense of preparation will be rendered useless by the beer tent on Saturday night...

This will be my 5th. It's the first thing on the calendar every year, to the point where I've briefed all my family and friends that they are not to organise any marriages or family events on the 1st bank holiday weekend in May for the foreseeable future.

I'll be on a green Cotic Solaris. A lot fitter this year so hopefully will make the cut for the extra bit at the end this year.

Had a break of 3 years after doing for the previous 4...looking forward to it.

Not sure whether to make a weekend of it and camp or drive up on Sunday, do the ride and then drive home after 🙄

Hope the weather holds off!

I'll be on my white Yeti ASR5 which will be undergoing some major TLC this week 😳

I'll be on a kwackers green Dialled Alpine set up singlespeed with 'race specific' components, meaning i've dug out the 17t cog for the nice moorland climb in the middle.

Looking forward to seeing who's hiding in the woods this year, hopefully deliverance banjo man is back!

Praying for good'ish weather, else wife wont be very happy!

Yes I'm in, doing it for the first time.

Can someone who has done it before give me some advice?...I'd like to ride without a backpack, so will be relying on feed stations for liquid, is this sensible, I'll have just one bottle on board and will need topping up.....Thanks!

Oh and Fantom biker, Id say take a bag. The feed station isnt until about 2/3 of the way round and the first 2/3rds is the toughest. If you cant take a bag, Id get a good few energy gels and strap them to your bars maybe

They really are fine. If you want to get a decent time, then go for the hardtail. If you just want to have fun and hit the descents hard, then take the full sus.

Waves hand! I'll be there. Number thousand and something(!), not sure what bike I have that works and not sure when I'm arriving, but probably down for Saturday afternoon and definitely in the beer tent on Saturday night. Wave when you pass me on the climbs and the descents... I think it's my 12th event (I've missed one ever I think)

I should / may be there if I shift the proper flu in time.

I'll be on my 29'er anthem set up tubeless, won't be doing better than last year dye to the illness, which is annoying as I've put the miles in this time

Im in .#52
Probably on a black Ano 575 with White Fox 32's
Will start fine the fade into the darkness after approx 30km as my endurance seems to be about 3hrs.

Any tyre advice welcomed , will be tubeless and normally put my trust in Vert Pros or Maxxis Ignitors which are basically identical.

# 706. This will be my fifth. Last year I broke my collarbone on the Weds night before it, and I was probably at my fittest ever. This year I'm determined to make up for it.

I'll tell you what I learnt last year. I have a Heckler and a Soul. I took the soul and it was perfect, the Heckler would have been too heavy for the requirement. Ups are generally fireroad with the exception of 2 (that I can remember) singletrack climbs - most were walking up, so you would inevitably get stuck behind them. The climbs are long, the descents are very good, rocky, with gulleys sometimes, and some towards the end slippy and slidey, but considering the length of the climbs, relatively very short. So you want something that favours the climbs. I also had far to heavy a backpack with bladder. It gave me backache. This time I will be going light with a simple tool kit, a few energy bars/gels and a water bottle. The fuel stop is about 2/3rds through, but has lots of food and drink. Tyres, I used Conti XKings last year, tubeless. Front was fine (2.4), back (2.2) split after me hairing down a rocky descent about 1/3 of way in. I'm taking a Nobby Nic snakeskin DD (2.4) this time on the back.

First time for me riding with a couple of mates from BucksMTB. Part of a long weekend of riding, Saturday through to Tuesday. Heard great things about the event and really can't wait for Saturday to arrive.

I'm No.853 and riding a grey, Whyte 905.

I'm in N0.68 on my enduro . This will be my second time and thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend ( apart from falling off not long after the feed station which resulted in a non shifting left thumb, found out afterwards i had fractured it slightly by the ligament!)

Not sure how i'll get on as i've not been riding as much ..its all for fun 😀

Just seen the post on FB "We welcome the Twisted Crank, Cyclists Tavern to the main tent this year, expect fine ale, live music, DJ's, bike based drinking games. And darts." sounds great ..who's up for a beer ?

Never had a problem overtaking on climbs or descents. Quick polite call of "coming through on your left/right when I can please" does the job. Inevetably I usually start at the back due to general disorganisation, so get the chance to say that a bit.

Generally it's not muddy, even if it is it's still grippy.

I did the ever so slightly wet winter warmer this year on Bonty 29-3's and they're not exactly heavily treaded, think between Ralph & Ron

Boggy? No. Rocky, wet, slidey, yes
There are often a couple of muddy bits, but for the most part, the climbs are on good fire roads and the descents are on mental steep off-camber wet slate
Xc tyres for climbing, tacky dh tyres for descending. Choose your compromise. ...

It's mostly rock on the descents so they don't get muddy, one or two do but they're still fine. I'll be riding rubber queens each end, if I could be arsed I'd swap the rear for a larsen.

Apparently there was some trouble getting the emails out, but the info is up on Facebook.

In case anyone here is not on Facebook:

Its howies Dyfi Enduro time. Spring has well and truly sprung in Mid-Wales, the trails are riding well and the trees are that bright shade of green that’s so Enduro at the moment.
We are busy preparing our biggest ever Enduro for you, tents are going up & beer is being rolled in.

The Route
All the lead out & return routes, as well as the forest trails, are open to other users. The Dyfi enduro is not a race. Please ride safely and with consideration for other riders and trail users.
Over 90% of riders have opted to ride the longer route. Based on previous experience, we think quite a few people will want to switch to the shorter option, especially those who get ‘stuck’ at the bottom of Dicko's descent. SO - choose whatever route you like, we will record your number & allocate it to the correct route. If you are running late, we may have to direct you back on the shorter option - we can’t keep our marshals out all night. When you have passed though the finish in the forest, don't forget to return to event HQ for your mug and spot prizes. Including the ride on back lanes in and out of Machynlleth the total distances are 57 & 65km.
As usual there will be a feed station at 2/3rds distance, stocked with snacks, water and energy drink. It’s a long tough ride, so please make sure you are packing food and water, along with a jacket and spare tubes. We have count down signs for both route options - the longer route takes in one extra big climb, but is rewarded with a great extra descent.
Signing on and number pick-up will begin mid-day Saturday and will be open until around 19.00, opening again between 08.00 and 10.00 on Sunday morning. Event start is at 11.00, with compulsory rider safety briefing at 10.50, on the line.
Entertainment & Refreshments
The Twisted Crank Tavern will be open in the main tent from Saturday afternoon for fine, fine ales, live music, DJ’s and films.
We welcome Les Velobici this year. They are planning 2 days of bike-related, circus unusualness for your entertainment with mini bike skittles, bike jousts and a mini ‘Duro.
The Luff Bus will be on hand once again, to cater for your tea, cake and pie-related requirements over the course of the weekend.
Kids Race
The local kids MTB club & Welsh Cycling will be running an informal kids, off road, time trial event on Saturday. Kids of all ages can practice the route, then have a go at setting their best time. It’s free, informal and fun, on a short wooded course next to event HQ. Starts late Saturday morning.
Tee Shirts
The howies crew will be at event HQ from lunch time on Saturday. They'll be bringing a selection of bike-themed organic, cotton tees, along with items from their cycle range, merino base layers, new jackets and shorts. If you forgot to order your Dyfi Enduro event tee when you signed up, howies will be taking orders on the day, which they'll print and mail out to you in the following week.
Camping, Parking & Recycling
We will park early arrivals on Sunday morning in the main car park, just off the high street. Once that’s full we will be using the space set aside in the main field. Please park as efficiently as possible because we have a lot of cars to fit in.
Camping opens Friday afternoon. We have a zoned campsite, so if you are camping please take a look at the field layout. The fire lanes must be kept clear and the area at the rear of the field is a designated a quiet zone, so please choose your site accordingly. Please note that fires and BBQ’s are not allowed and dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
We are actively trying to reduce waste at the event, so please sort you recyclables and dispose of accordingly, using the graded bins by the skips and waste bags which are available. Site clear up is a beastly job, so please help us as much as you can by sorting your waste.
Event Photographer
We have an event photographer along the route and the photos can be found at robbarkerimages.com on the Tuesday following the event.
Showers are at the leisure centre. It’s open Fri to 19.00, Sat 08.00-18.00 and Sun 08.30-18.00. Tell them that you are with the Enduro - they will charge you £1.20 and excuse the filth.

Keep an eye on the Dyfi MTB Events Facebook page for last minute news.

First Dyfi, Prince Albert 1x9,
I'm sure it'll hurt and I'm sure I'll be holding people up but I'll be smiling all the way round!
Training has consisted of cannock Chase and some longer 30 milers around Sherwood Pines.

Fire roads ain't to bad, just sit back and chat!

Do I go super-light race 29er h/t or somewhat heavier XC full-sus, but with benefit of dropper post?

Thanks in advance folks. See y'all there!

If you are confident downhill, then a 29er HT is fine.

I'll be on my trusty BFe, which has seen me through it with varying degrees of success for 4 out of my 5 previous times. Took my 160mm bike last year, got my fastest time to date, got wild on the downhills - but I think the HT is just as fun, and even more wild.

Overseas with work.

Grrr.

👿

If someone could violently drop their guts in front of IR_Bandito on the first climb, I'd appreciate it. 😀

I now find myself with 2 spare rider numbers. If anyone's looking longingly at this thread wishing they had a place, please get in touch. I know its too late to change details on line so we'd have to meet up at the event.

Done many of these, my cupboard is full of Dyfi enduro mugs

See you sunday, I can't think of any better way of spending my birthday.

Not quite so fit as previous years, but it will be nice to do it this year with big wheels & bounce. Might stop for a tipple at the disco bar this time too.

I'm in. Can't wait. Although riding a r*ad bike for the last couple of months might not be the best prep. Please don't ride over me if I've forgotten how to drop off anything larger than a cobble.

I will endeavour to realise your wish for you. I will lay the foundations on Saturday with a large curry with cauliflower and lots of real ale...
