I have one of the 900 lumen DX lights which is just embarking on it's 4th year of reliable service, but the connector jack plug seems to have given up the ghost.

Is it possible to repair these? I'm not very "electrical", so what sort of electronic repair person would be able to replace those jack plugs?

Ta! 🙂

Easy to repair. Buy the splitter cable that allows you to run two lights from one battery (costs about £6). This has the correct connector fitted to a length of cable.. Cut the splitter cable and use it to replace the cable fitted to the lamp unit.

Would that involve soldering at the lamp end? And the battery? I'm afraid I'm pretty clueless about this sort of thing...

Is there a name for that type of connector so I can google, or at least know what I'm asking for?

Thanks

You can disassemble the lamp and solder in a new lead, but the contacts are pretty small, so you'd have to be confident. Probably easier to cut the old plug off, and solder a new one on in-line. Some heatshrink from a hobby shop threaded onto the lead before hand will give you a watertight union.

No idea, if you take the lamp unit in to a model shop or RC cars shop, they might have some that'll fit. Or you can buy another lead from DX for about $4, or from ebay for a bit more, either the 3-way split or 1m extension cables should do you right.

and if you are not confident with soldering maybe ask one one of the Maplin geeks nicely if they could solder the new one on for you (the offer of a couple of beer tokens may help)
