I've just helmet mounted the dx bastid light. If/when I come off or hit a tree isn't this going to act as a nasty neck wrenching anchor??

Much like anything attached to the exterior of your lid, yes. The trick is securing it in a way so that it doesn't wobble nor bounce off, yet detaches easily when pulled. Use something that holds it from the bottom (i.e. strong velcro) and doesn't clasp it completely (so NOT zip ties).

I've got my Tesco torch attached with zip ties. Riding in Sutton Park when I caught a low branch. Head pulled back and I was taken right off the bike. Sore neck for a couple of days.

So zip ties not a good idea!!!
