Anyone have any thoughts on this fork? Just ordered a new bike, and Fox seem to be having supply issues. After talking to one of the riders/mechanics at the shop I quite like the idea of the DVO Onyx SC. Sounds like a short (50mm or so) coil offers nice small bump suppleness at the top of the stroke with the backup of the air spring for deeper travel.
If it matters, its going on a Ripmo V2 so will be limited down to 160mm travel.
The alternative is/was the Factory 36 Grip2 which I know is already pretty decent.
Thanks in advance
Can only speak for the DVO Diamond I have (which came off a Ripmo AF) but I've been really impressed with it. Fiddled with that coil thingy today and it made a noticeable difference to small bump.
No experience of their forks but I got a NOS Topaz for barely more than the cost of a fox service as an upgrade for my trance. Super impressed with it; crazy traction compaired to before, great tuneability and it's supposedly friendly from a user servicing point of view though I've yet to test this.
Based on this experience I'd defo consider full DVO on a new bike and have eyed those Ripmo AF builds a fair bit.
Having a neg coil spring really does do wonders
Plus they are built!
I've got one and am seriously impressed with it. I haven't ridden a current 36, but to me it feels better than the modern Lyrik I tried.
Happily sits in the middle zone with a chunk of support, yet still really supple over the small stuff, and ramps up nicely.
I'm scrawny as, but it certainly feels as stuff as my old '16 36
Damping has a nice effective range.
Only downer is having to fiddle a bit with the rebound knob when doing a lowers service so it doesn't get jammed.
I have one of the cheaper Beryl forks and have been impressed with the OTT system (my other fork is a 36 with Push coil). I also like the fact I can adjust travel (140 - 160) with no other parts if I decide to move it off my 29" hardtail.
Thanks all for the feedback here, broadly mirrors what I have seen online (though there isn't much about yet). Trigger has been pulled, bike will be here next week sporting a DVO on the front. Will see how it turns out!
Sorry to resurrect this thread wildc4rd, but I'm curious to hear how you're getting on with the Onyx. I'm in exactly the same predicament as you were in terms of the Ripmo V2 build kit.
