I’ve been a bit careless / lacklustre with bike maintenance this year and finally cleaned my bike yesterday to discover that there’s a whopping great scratch on my stanchions. No one has any stock of Mattoc CSU’s anywhere, so I’ve been looking at new forks.

The DVO Beryl can be picked up for not too much but there doesn’t appear to be many reviews. Just wondering if anyone in here has used them etc.

Does the scratch stop the Mattocs holding air (assuming they are air forks)? If not I’d just ride them until something goes wrong. If they have black stanchions you could very lightly sand the scratch to make sure it’s got no rough edges (very very fine grade sandpaper) and then black humbrol enamel paint the scratch.

There’s no rough edges on the scratch that I can feel. It’s pretty deep, but they still seem to be holding air OK.

I was thinking that I might drop the lowers, given them a good clean, wack some grease in then nail varnish / sand / polish the scratch until it goes smooth and see what happens.

It turns out that the new seals are very slippery but let a bit more crap in. Oooops.

I tried nail varnish in the scratch I’ve got on my Lyriks and it wore off quite quickly. I found the humbrol has done a better job. So far so good - the scratch has been there quite a while now and no air leakage to date.

Mine was fairly bad - I got to the top of a trail on an uplift day and noticed my forks had jammed down through their travel - there was a stone trapped between the fork brace and one of the stanchions - the only way to get it out was to lever it which was horrible!

Air forks don’t rely on the stanchion seals to hold air. A scratch will just make it a bit more likely that crap gets into the lowers

I bought a pr from slam 69 for £440.00 and they were to replace a lyrik that after 3 mths developed a csu creak.
Being the second pr of rs forks to do this once they got fixed I sold them and bought the Beryl.
They are an absolute beauty of a fork.
So plush and the mid stroke support is insane. Only got a few rides on them but I'm absolutely smitten with there performance.
They feel as good as my 36,s on my other bike .

Good point - having changed 2 airshaft sand a damper on RS forks I should know this! Just dirt into the lowers that is the concern....
