Anyone doing this event? What's it like, a big laugh or full of lycra speedfreaks?

I'm signed up in a team of 2 for my 4th go at D2D.

What's it like, a big laugh or full of lycra speedfreaks?

I'd say it's a 50/50 crowd of people there for a laugh and those who are out to win it.

Was out last night in the pouring rain, so on past experience that was perfect training...

As above, some people are out to win, but plenty are there for a laugh.

I'm doing it with a mate as a pair. We don't take it seriously.

If you haven't done it before, I would recommend bringing lots of spare clothes depending on what the weather looks like it is going to do. It will probably be a bit puddly/muddy after the rain over the last couple of weeks.
Thetford is flat, but I wouldn't say that makes it easy. The undulating nature means you are constantly pedalling and the terrain also tends to tire your back out.

I've done it the last three years in a row. Once in a team of three, the other two times I did it solo and will be solo this weekend.

It's a great event - it doesn't have the facilities of some (like SITS with it's showers) but there's a really nice atmosphere and everyone seems happy to be doing it. The last two years have been horrendous weather wise so I'd suggest bringing suitable tyres, mudguards and a jetwash if you have one. This year they have an alternative route if it gets really wet again but you know its bad when you're having to push along fireroads because the trail is that cut up. Ooohhh and bring extra brake pads, you'll deffo need those if its wet.

Field is a mix of serious and not so serious riders. Be amazed as Matt Page et al come tearing past you in the middle of the night going at about warp 7 and wonder why you don't have the ability to do the same.

I'm embarrassed to say that out of three attempts I've yet to finish so the aim this year is to just keep going. narrow tyres, single speed and flat pedals for the win....

Nice day for it. Just packed the car & waiting for mates to arrive to head over in convoy...

Hoping that the riders who do practice laps help to shift any standing water by the start of the race! Wahoo. Bring it on.
