Is it just the level of detail in the maps, or is the main path track to the south of the fence? Therefore leaving the route to witches open without any extra gates or fences in the way?
Main path is going to be hemmed in with fences either side. You can get to the summit on the main path without gates but all the other routes are going to be gate-city. One popular line is now into a fence.
The fencing between the main route and lower route is going to be a pain, and it cuts out the range of possibilities on the lower route. I suppose we will get used to it.

Went up this morning for a ride/look. Selfishly my normal route (climb to halfway and turn right towards Witches) will be unaffected.
I didn’t realise many people took the lower options, always seems massively overgrown. “Back Passage” will clearly be affected though
Went up this morning. Selfishly my normal route (up halfway, turn right towards Witches) will be fine. Hadn’t actually appreciated that many people used the lower routes as it always seems really overgrown whenever I go near it.

Except you'll now be riding in a narrow fenced corridor for the first half and down besides a fence for the second.
Why the fences?
Will need to see how narrow it is on the main path, and lot of it is fairly spread out so far. The way down isn’t such an issue, looks like the fence only comes over around 2/3rds of the way down will still be a fair distance away.
it’s not ideal but if it means a decent woodland growing (with the potential for new trails many years from now) then I can make my peace with it.
