Apologies, apologies for this question! Be gentle.... tubeless virgin here!:)
Alesrims Tubeless Ready System rims..... tubeless ready Minion.....
Got Tesa tape on the way.
Rim is 25mm ID, ordered 19mm tape as the rime is tubeless ready so it doesn't need to meet the tyre bead right??
Second, having the tape too far up the rim "apparently" means it can get damaged by tyre removal anyway? Witha bit of measuring the 25mm tape would indeed be very near the bead seat on the rim, hence went 19mm.
it'll be fine.
Phew.... ordered the tape and bits last night and then wondered if I should have got the 25mm.
Thanks for the logic check wwaswas. 🙂
I prefer the tape to cover the full width of the rim. I find the bead pops into place easier when it's doing so over the shiny surface of the tape rather than the anodised surface of the metal rim. I know that WTB recommend the widest tape possible on their rims (e.g. 50mm tape on the 45mm Scraper)
Just make sure that the spoke bed is well covered and that the tape is sealed with no air bubbles - you can easily see where the tape isn't quite sticking as it's more yellow.
It just needs to cover the spoke holes. iiwy i'd put two layers on, the first up against one side and the 2nd up against the other so they overlap in the middle. do up the valve ring as tight as you can with some needle pliers and take a small pair out with when you ride. put loads of sealant in for first time. use slightly soapy water and brush it about all over the rim and you can see where it leaks air, if at all, so you can hold that bit to the bottom so the sealant runs to it and seals it.
Good luck.
Thanks guys, dont know what I would do without STW. Walk more I guess!;)
