I came off on Saturday, and since then my ring finger on my right hand has been sore - the kind of pain you get if you ding your funny bone. I can move it and flex it ok, but its just constantly got this dull ache.
I'm not suffering, just curious as to what it is or could be causing it?
any swelling or pain when bending it?
not really. It gets sore and aches if u don't move it for a while
*I am not a medic*
Either nerve damage (a la 'funny bone') or some sort of tendon damage.
are there any specific 'tender' spots on your finger hand or arm?
no not really.
edit: just bent it to tap out this message and its sore all the way between the end and middle knuckle
It's spreading!
I got my finger caught between lever and bar in an over the bars incident about 2 months ago - had a lot of pain around the joint for aabout a month and it only stopped hurting if I shoved a finger int he joint after about 6 weeks. there was never much bruising
If it's not improving after a few days or gets worse I'd get someone who knows what they're talking about to have a look.
this has just reminded me that last night i had a very quick dream about me growing a 6th finger . .
thanks
i bashed my two outer fingers in the alps, nothing broken just hit really hard, it took about 6 months for the aching to go . . .
what is it though? just tendon or nerves?
just tendon or nerves?
probably.
I just prodded my finger where I hurt it at the beginning of April. It still hurts...

I broke a bone (5th metacarpal) in my right hand on 22nd Dec - and at the same time did something to the middle knuckle (PIPJ) on my 4th finger. It has never really hurt but just swelled up to start with and pretty much stopped moving (the other break meant that those 2 fingers were splinted together anyway). It still won't bend past 90 degrees and I've been told to expect an 18 month recovery. 'Soft tissue injury' is about as specific as the hand specialist consultant would give me.
I broke my finger crashing at 24/12 about five years ago, but I refused to believe that it was broken, though it obviously was. If only I'd had an iPhone - at the time they didn't exist - I could have had it diagnosed on here and carried on riding regardless, just knowing that it was broken rather than being in denial. Lack of technology is a wonderful thing.
My diagnosis is that you've hurt your finger but if you can still ride a bike, it doesn't matter...
