Does anyone know if the "original", marked trail is still there or if it's been sanitised/improved/abandoned due to the development of the Explorer trail?

I went a couple of times last year and quite liked it but due to weak Google Fu I can now only seem to find reference to the new trail.

I dont know the answer to your question but I'd imagine the guys at Clee Cycles in Bridgnorth or Pearce Cycles will know. I was at the opening of the trails there a few years ago and Ive ridden there since but not recently.

I've not been over for months - I didn't know about this Explorer trail thing, but you're right, zero mention of the original trail anywhere on NT website. A peek at Strava segment explorer shows plenty of recent activity. Interested to know whether it's still an 'official' trail.

Yes it’s the local and is defo still here it’s been changed a bit after last years midlands xc race, they have the explorer trail too but that very tame even on a gravel bike. The only thing really different is the car park in now nt and you have to pay if your not a member and they have a coffee hut open on the weekends
