Sorry if this has been asked before but the search function seems to just take me to the homepage.

I'm looking at replacing the 1x groupset on my Gravel bike to a 2x. It's mainly used for the road and I keep running out of gears. It seems it's not much more expensive to just get an entire 2x groupset instead of just upgrading. It's an On-One Freeranger so a standard BB shell. I've seen a good deal on a AXS groupset but it comes with a DUB crankset. Is there a BB that will accommodate this or is it like the 30mm PF standard?

What's the current crankset?

If it's 24mm or 30mm then you just need to fit a BSA dub bottom bracket, there's loads out there. Or a 30mm to dub adapter, although tbh I'd just get a new BB.

Current cranks are Sram Rival 1x not DUB though. I think I'll have a serious look at the Axs set up then 🙂 Thanks both

Ahh gxp then which is 24mm. You'll need to replace the BB in that case - fyi Dub is 28.99mm spindle diameter, not 30mm.

My experience of dub is that the bsa bb lasted pretty well, but the crank bolt can be an utter utter bast to get undone. Sometimes it's fine, but when it isn't...

I'd keep a good lookout for any HT2 deals, and swap the cranks when you can.

My experience was that it was the BSA DUB BB that came on my Whyte S-150 was a clicking grinding mess after less than 6 months. I was delighted to swap it for an Shimano BB with SLX Cranks.

The size of the DUB spindle means there is no room for decent sized bearing so they just wear out faster than a BB that takes a 24mm spindle

Yeah, I'd not voluntarily have DUB or any SRAM BB in one of my bikes.

The GXP one I had was better, but they aren't trying to cram a oversize spindle into a BSA cup with GXP

TBF the reason for the new standard was to have a new standard- get OEMs to buy your cranks, then sell BBs to the bike owners.

Meh, I have two SRAM DUB BBs each over 800 miles and doing OK. One of them is 41mm press fit, the worst shell size available, so I’m with Beats International on this one.
