Just wondering if anybody has had any experience with the XM-1550 Tricon wheels? Opinions etc welcome!
No, but thought long and hard about them before getting a set of DT240/super comp/stans crests built up. They worked out lighter and cheaper, and seem pretty strong too. I was a bit concerned about being able to get hold of spokes if I needed them in a hurry.
The servicing for them does seem a right pain, even if you can get hold of spokes. Adjusting/replacing a spoke apparently involves the repeated use of a heat gun!
I'm not really considering getting a set, I was just wondering if they lived up to the hype (very stiff). The wheels require a dedicated (and expensive) toolset for servicing spokes. Either that or you have to send off your wheel for a new spoke! Seems ridiculous.

My better half has had my set on her bike for about a year and a half, and they're still going fine, but she's not exactly super gnarlcore rad to the max extreeeem.
Have also heard nightmare stories about spoke replacement... apparently there were originally meant to go back to madison if they needed truing.
I've had them on my Trek Fuel for 14 months. they survived the TransRockies and show no signs of damage or being out of true. Very light compared to any other wheels I've got. I figure I'll cross the spoke replacement/servicing bridge when I come to it!

What size tyres are you/your better half running ?

I have got some of these and yes they are super stiff, as well as being nice and light, the pickup is really quick and they do seem to make your bike want to go.
they were also very easy to put tubeless tyres on, no struggle sat all.
the wheels seem to be very strong, i have had no problems with them despite knocking them around a lot, have dented the rim on a nasty tree stump incident, but the wheel remained less than 1mm out, so pretty tuff i would say.
As OP says above the spoke replacing can be a pain as they need a special key for the nipples which is specific to the wheel, they will either send them back to madison for sorting but fortunately my lbs has a key so all good.
the one annoying point with them is that the 15mm thru axle pair you will need a different lockring for centrelock rotors - one of the ones that does up with a bb tool as oppossed to a cassette tool one. this is because the cups are not removable like the Hope ones.
In summary a decent wheelset which is tough, stiff and light, the freehub seems more robust than the hope free hub as well, if you can get them in a sale as i did then i think they are pretty decent.
and they look nice too!
ps. as comparison my 3 previous sets of wheels have all been hope wheels. personally i find these a lot better.
i am running 2.35in panaracers on mine
The front axle adaptors are changeable.
When we got our demo pair they came 15mm instead of QR, and I swapped adaptors with our rep.
You do need the alternate centelock ring for 15mm though.
