I have a Scott Scale Premium 26" mountain bike from 2012. It is fitted with DT Swiss Tricon wheels which have been superb. The rear hub has finally died on me so need to replace. Bike is 10 speed. Do I need a particular DT Swiss replacement?
What has died?
The tricon used the very much available star ratchet system and you can swap all the star ratchet free hub bodies and internals from prior to 2020's revised exp system.
The star system is really resilient especially in 18t bit Poorly (or not) serviced stars can end up lunching themselves and after a potential 10 years then this could be the case. More likely bearings though.
If it's your hub bearings then these are also replaceable. One requires a special tool but the others can be relatively easily done.
Even though the hub looks much different, the service procedures are essentially the same as any other 240/350 hub.
