You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have a 3 pawl 370 hub and lots of spare DT parts.
I'm going to swap the 3-pawl to a star ratchet
The 2 required parts I need are
HDXXX00N1131s - steel ring nut (star)
HCDXXX00S1083S - spring shim
Now, I have a couple of dead driver bodies (seized bearings) that have a drive ring and a shim washer in them.. but I cannot find out if the parts are the same as the hub side.
Any clues?
All sources seem to assume that the driver body is consumable vs serviceable, so little spares info vs the body as a unit.
I've never seen anyone remove the thread ring from a driver, but there's also no need to when it comes to servicing them so maybe they do come out. Would probably need a heat gun and a good vice as with even the leverage from a complete wheel, the thread rings in the hubshell can be a nightmare to remove. I'm also pretty sure that the 3 pawl star ratchet conversion uses different sized components to a conventional 240 / 350 etc hub.
Already done one 3pawl to star swap when syncros had that recall so I know it fits. But yes, could be all manner of thread lock used at assembly which would suck to go through that effort if the drive ring is different between the shell and driver.
There shouldn't be any threadlock. DT Swiss specifically tell you to use grease because the system is self tightening. But because of the torque applied when riding is so high, it'd potentially be 'fun' getting that ring out without resorting to a Dremel and the like.
Snapped a vice removing the ring once. They are indeed not easy to remove.
All of a 5 minute wait this morning for DT tech support email to let me know the spring shim is the same part # but the ring nut is not!
That's that solved then 🙂
Cheers
