Imagine my delight last tuesday, after driving an hour and a bit to Gisburn when I got the bike out the car and found the freehub to be stuck open i.e. freewheeling in both directions. It was ok before I set off. Bouncing the back of the bike off the ground achieved fek all so I found a wheel brace from the car and used it to give light sharp taps on the end of the QR. That worked and I was able to enjoy a few hours riding.

So, it obviously needs some attention. I have never serviced a freehub before, always had shimano in the past and just binned them when they gave up after a few years of use.

Had a look through the manual(it's a 370 two pawl hub) and it all looks pretty straight forward but, seems to require a few special tools to do a full strip and rebuild.

Anyone achieved this without the special tools? If so, any good tips? Do you reckon it's worth only going as far as taking the freehub body off(only requires a spanner) and giving it a clean and grease?

some 370's pop off by hand, others have threaded end caps.

If you got it working again i'd suggest the pawls got stuck and it just needs a clean and lube with light oil.
Unlikely your drive ring or pawls are broken otherwise you'd not have had a ride.
