Want some better wheels than the Roval's I'll soon have, but I'm not looking to pay 1501 prices, when 370 wheelset seem to come up more regularly (yes the 1501 no doubt have better rims). Converting them looks to be possibility but a bit of PINA, is it worthwhile?

Probably best if you tell us which of the three wheelsets you mention you want to convert, and what you want to convert from and to

If by converting you mean from the 3pawl to to star ratchet internals then probably not.
The components add up pretty quickly and you sacrifice some seal effectiveness.
Choose 370 hubbed wheelsets for their value as built, not as a cheap way to part swap to high end wheels.

(Sorry yes converting from 3 pawl to star racket)
Why do you say the 3pawl system is better sealed than the star racket? The video I've seen, they take the freehub seal off the 3pawl freehub and re-fit it to the star racket (interested not being being argumentative).
I'm not look to make a top end wheelset, just a decent low(ish) priced one, as DT 1900 wheelset are reasonably cheap 2nd hand. Where-as the Roval's have a seemingly very poor rep all round (freehub and rim), but I'm concerned the DT swiss 3pawl freehub doesn't have the greatest reviews eithers.

The 3 pawl is what it is. And if you break pawls, you just change them.

The 3pawl seal is designed to fit on the 3 pawl driver body, retained on a lip. The star ratchet seal sits inside a slightly different machined recess in the hub body itself.
It's a best available solution, not a sealing solution designed for that combination of parts.

As far as I am aware the 370's are not convertible to ratchet from pawls.

They are as a fairly decent 'bodge'/hack.
You need a star ratchet drive ring, spring washer, axle sleeve, driver body, star ratchets, springs and grease. As well as access to both drive ring removal tools.
I decided against it on a 3pawl XD kids wheel build that needed to become shimano as I didn't really like the seal solution and a Shimano 3 pawl body was cheaper than the few parts I didn't have on hand to convert to star.

Unless you’re going to get a 36t ratchet is there really much benefit of moving from the paws to an 18t ratchet?

I’ve got an e1900 rims that I’ve literally not had to touch at all and it’s almost 2.5 years old. I don’t notice it being slow to pickup.

To compare I have a Hope Pro4 wheelset and a MasonxHunt wheelset which have both got a lot more points of engagement and I can’t say I notice.

Embarrassingly I’ve realised my current bike* has e1900’s fitted (27.5, I’ll need 29er version for the new bike), honestly I’ve never noticed any issues with pickup & again the rims have been solid for 1.5yrs under my dire skillz & in all weathers. Decision made then, just need to get some & ignore my need to want to modify everything. Cheers all
