just grabbed my nipper a set of x1900 's from ebay which have come without the centrelock clamp/bolt/disc things
i see tehre are cheaper alternatives, prime, shimano and nicer ones like hope. Are they all compatible with DT swiss wheels? the dt swiss genuine ones seem to be 3 times the cost of the alternatives (bar hope)

They're all pretty much the same and work with centerlock, you get them with rotors usually, so buy some shimano rotors and they'll come with the clamp, i've got about 6 of them in a pile as they tend to come with wheels and rotors.

Just be careful as there are two types, you can get the ones with the internal key ways that you use a cassette lockring tool to tighten / loosen

And you et the ones that have the external keyways that you use a Shimano HTII BB spanner / socket to tighten / loosen.

The latter are preferable as they clear all through axles and also look better IMHO, the former sometimes don't clear through axles and a more QR orientated. As the external ones are the mode that DT Swiss go by, I'd be using them. Other than that the thread is identical on them all, so any off-brand one that looks like the DT will be fine.

I'd be putting up a wanted ad to see if anyone's bought some DT wheels recently and not used the adaptors, I had a set knocking about for years that I sadly gave to a mate only recently, otherwise I'd be offering.

Also can be found cheaply on Wish / Ali Express. I have some of the second type in anodised red and they are absolutely fine. Work with the HTII spanner.

I assumed they came wit hthe wheels,

They usually do unless the wheels have 6-bolt versions available.

Only exception is if the wheels are OEM ones, if they came in proper DT-branded wheel boxes they're not OEM so I'd have a word with the shop as they should have been included.

I don't like the shimano ones - they have tiny bolts for the disc, which also rust. The DT are nicely made, but probably no better than any of the other brands.

i jumped the gun, wheels turned up
then bike turned up...
it already has shimano hubs with centrelock discs.. 😀 although i know the wheels weigh a good metric ton for a ids bike (front felt heavier than my dt 471 29er with Se4 tyre)
