I need a new hub for my ebike so weight isn't really an issue.
Ordinarily I'd go for the 350s but the only stock I can find in the right size/ hole count are the 240s
Given 350 are heavier, Is there any difference in durability?
Ps this is for a rear hub
For the stresses that matter, i don't think there's much of a difference, i've used 240s on my ebike, enduro and so on for a while, never had an issue with the hub, yes i've had spokes ripped out, spokes break and rims get dinged, but hubs are pretty much bulletproof, and to be fair, they're well protected within a wheel, the main issue on hubs will always be around the freehub operating and hub sealing, both of which are done well with DT240/350. I do love the Straight Pull as well, nice and easy to build and maintain, last time i broke two spokes i had the wheel up and running again in less than an hour.
If you want to save a few quid hunt around for any spare Spesh Control SL hubs, have two of these as well as a 240, all interchangeable and work great, and can be picked up cheap off ebay or the likes.
Thanks argee
There are a few different HG freehub versions with different bearing sizes. I'd imagine the smaller sized bearings won't last as long.
DT 240 exp hubs currently have an engagement issue (those with a 0 in the serial). 350 is the old double ratchet and no such issues...
The EXP issue was down to the finish on a batch of the outer (freehub) ratchets, it only affected about 2% of the EXP hubs that were made last year.
If you have an EXP hub and it's slipping then go here to request a new ratchet:

DT don't actually recomend the standard 350 and 240 for E-MTB use, they produce a dedicated Hybrid 240 rear hub with a steel freehub., reinforced axle, bigger bearings for that:

@hatter - thanks for notes about the 'Hybrid' specific 240 design - I didnt know that.
My GF has DT Hybrid 1200 wheels that came on her Merida ebike so I will ensure I look up the specific bearings when required.
HXC 1200's? Nice! I have the HX 1501's on my Eeeber.
Finding the right spares for any recent DT bits is easy, all listed on here:

If it's the old model (dual ring) 240 then it's functionally identical to the 350. The only difference for durability/reliability is that the 350 comes with slightly less good bearings. They're still perfectly decent though
The 350 doesn't add any useful strength with its additional weight, if that's what you were wondering, it adds flab basically... but, they're both strong enough structurally in the shell that it doesn't really matter, they're ridiculously durable. The 240s in my enduro bike are 15 years old.
As hatter mentioned there's an ebike variant which changes quite a bit- I think it's mostly for the additional drivetrain stresses? Most ebikes so far just use normal hubs but it does make sense that stuff designed for human power might not be up for human + motor power.
I thought 240’s were stainless bearings and 350’s weren’t...part of the price diff apart from the extra machining.
I bought some giant trx wheels for my 29’er very cheap which were rebranded dt 240’s hubs i think or at least internals. 32h straight pull. The big boys did use DT’s hubs sometimes and they’re out there chesp if you can find them. The DT freehub design is still amazeballs. Might want the lower / standard pick up ratchet thingemy for the e bike’s inertia for max durability.
