I'm thinking of asking Santa for one of the above for my 2015 Five. The idea is to swap between the coil shock for uplift & rougher trail centre days and use the already fitted Fox CTD Factory air can for normal XC duties. Plus I just fancy having a go with coil to be honest as I've heard great things about them on Fives!
So the question is, has anyone used either of the above? Am unsure if its worth spending the extra on the Dueler over the Fox. Wondering If I'd really notice enough of a difference to justify the extra £70 odd being as its not exactly a full on DH bike etc?
Any advice appreciated!
No experience of the Dueler
I have the Van RC on my Patriot. It's good but it's not as good as a CCDB coil.
I ran a CCDB coil on a Five for a couple of years. It was quite simply brilliant.
Like you, I thought I'd be swapping between it and an RP23 but I soon decided the CCDB was better for everything and well worth the weight penalty..
If you want a coil, get the CCDB coil. Best upgrade I ever put on the Five.
I've had both, but now run a CCDB coil(different bike)The Dueler is a great shock, ran it on an alpine 160 and then a Patriot, not too heavy with it's ti spring and it was fit and forget. It felt bottomless on harssh landings where the van felt a bit harsh.
Thanks for the replies. While I'd love to go CCDB I really can't justify it to myself, besides the other half would kill me! It sounds like the Dueler is worth a look. Don't mind going that bit extra over the Van RC but think the CCDB would be a bit silly, not to mention overkill.
My CCDB is great, but I think I noticed a bigger difference between the Dueler and Van RC than the Dueler and CCDB! With the ti spring it is a bit of a bargain really and great backup from Loco.
