Where has all the mud gone?
Down here in Surrey even my most reliable quagmire has dried up.

Gravel ride lunchtime. Hoping the tracks I've chosen are puddle free 😀

I wish it was at Coed a few days ago, I'd be better off with a surfboard I'm sure.

Our local woods (Holmfirth, West Yorks) are running quick. Not dusty-quick but well worth getting out for and no bike cleaning necessary. Happy days.

Down in Surrey over New Year, running rather than riding, but the few sections of trail were 'dry firm' mud rather than the sloppy stuff. Similar story here in Leeds, not ventured on the usually sloppy stuff but the easier-going trails are very rideable indeed. Dryest January I can recall.

In other news, my alcohol consumption has stopped since 1 January and will continue through the the month (other than a brief relapse around my birthday weekend 🍻🍷)

I'm more than happy with a dry Jan! Last weekend my bike was hardly muddy at all after a Surrey hills ride!

Cracking isn't it!? I can't wait to hit the trails tomorrow. If I wasn't snowed under at work, I would seriously be considering a cheeky overnight mid-week trip to Wales, to make the most of this dry spell.

Crikey that was cold. I wore a skull cap under my helmet and still got brain-freeze! But it was lovely and sunny, wind-free and dry. Few puddles on the track, but easily dodged. 🙂

Up in Scotland is not to shabby either. Golfie yesterday was surprising, still the odd inevitable bit of mud but on the whole not too bad at all!

I've never seen the trails this dry at this time of year before unless frozen. But I've only been biking since 2014. It was wet through the first half of December as well. But it has not rained for a week which is unusual in Winter and I think is the reason for the lower levels of mud

I went for a spin around Rivi earlier,& as any local will tell you unless the mud's frozen this time of year is usually a bit boggy.Today though the trails were more like April.
If things balance out we'll get a wet spring so make the most of it!!

I rode around the Kerry mountains at Chrimbo and it was bone dry. Got some really enjoyable miles in.

Plenty of non-dry stuff round here if you take a wrong turning...

South Downs running beautifully at the moment, very dry and grippy, even the non existent Singletrack in Friston, just the odd boggy section at gates. Driest I’ve ever seen the Downs in 18 winters of riding here.

Perfect trail conditions in East Dorset. It is mainly sandy here anyway but to ride for a couple of hours in January and not have to clean the bike after is weird!

The (South) Dales was pretty dry today - there's a few puddles here and there but quite a few of the becks that you'd normally either struggle to ford or use the bridge to get across were either bone dry or a trickle, even Goredale Beck (the big one on Mastiles Lane) was at summer levels and easy to cross dry-foot.

Arncliffe Cote was dry (see the "Trails around Malham" threads), a bit of mud at the top gateway but that was it. Someone on a cyclocross bike went over it before us. The top field is still effin' bumpy though!

Pretty damn dry in the South lakes today, even no boggy bits on Nan Bield descent.

A couple of pics from higher up...

Perfect on the South Downs today, boggy sections I thought would be set in until May were nearly bone dry. Perfect grip on the Steyning trails, had a great ride!

It's brilliant but I do worry that it means it'll be wet and sloppy late into March / April..

Cannock off piste was pretty grim on Christmas Eve but was lovely on New Years Eve and FOD was riding really well on Saturday.
