This idea came up whilst on a ride last week - I'd punctured and was spraying gunk everywhere, and it wouldn't seal up...

I needed to top up the fluid, which involved the faff of taking the valve core out, squirting the gunk in, and doing it all back up again..
I'd said it would be easier if I could simply 'inject' the gunk in...well here you go!

Worked a treat, and I'll now carry about in my bag the spare gunk and the needle/syringe!

you didn't tap the syringe to get the air bubbles out!

you've killed *my* scandal 🙁

next week "Man admitted to hospital after falling off bike and onto latex filled syringe"

good trick though 🙂

DrP - could you talk me through that as I couldn't see where you injected it? 😯 Having had a tyre explode yesterday (first time) and came off the rim, I could not get it to inflate.

Thank you. 😀

CG - I'l literally injecting latex solution into the tyre - i.e puncturing the rubber in order to inject the solution into the tyre.

This is unlikely to help seat a fully deflated tyre - it's there to prevent the need to fully deflate, if you see what I mean...?

No issues with the latex clogging the needle? (I can't see the video)

Inject it anywhere! The hole the needle makes will seal up straight away..

does your sealant have latex 'bits' in like Stans, or is it just a liquid, just wondering if the bits inject ok?

So how easy is it to come by wide bore needles? They're only little flimsy things down at the exchange drop-in. 😀

It probably will clog - I suspect it's a single use only item!

I is disappointed 🙁 I was expecting an inventive use of expensive medical equipment, a drip bag or some clever blood clotting granule things 🙁

I thought you were just injecting through the existing hole at first but it does make sense to carry a syringe of fluid on a ride if you are going somewhere that punctures are a big risk. Luer lock syring with cap in bag and luer lock needle in holder. When you are done just take the needle off and give it a quick wash out with some water blown in from your mouth (from the luer end so you don't give yourself a fat lip) to clean it out then put it all away again.

I wonder if it is best to put the syringe through a tyre tread so the latex has a longer channel to clog and seal.

edit: Dr P, you could sell your idea to the people who make those brake bleed kits, better remove it from youtube quick 😉

And conveniently, as long as you're carrying a syringe with you, you can make sure punctures are a big risk everywhere!

actually not using a needle and just injecting through the whole that won't seal with a syringe would be a good choice - you can then put the anchovy in to seal it up.

I didn't mention this, but that's what I tried last week.. (I always carry a syringe and some gunk, as it's easier to fill through the valve with a syringe.).

I tried forcing the syringe into the hole, but it wouldn't go in..thus using a needle (which I'll simply put the cover back on after) was the solution.
