I'm looking at getting a longer drop for my stumpy... also looking at reverb axs....

The stumpy is 34.9 frame...
The droppers I've found (and seems to be the only size available) is 30.9....

I can shim (and spec actually offer this post, shimmed, in the sworks models).. but am I daft getting a thinner seatpost when I could go thicker?

Are the benefits of a thicker seatpost?
IDEALLY I'd get a 31.6 as can run this is all my other frames if I wanted... but they just don't exist.

I probably wouldn't get a 34.9 post even if they WERE available, as it limits me to just the stumpy....

WWSTWD?!

I’d get a 34.9mm BikeYoke because they just work really well. Had one in my Levo for over 3 years, serviced once. Expensive to buy but not to own.

I've got a 27.2 dropper in a 30.0 and 31.6 frame and it's absolutely fine.
Like you this is so I can use it in different bikes when the need arises, I've got frames which need 27.2, 30.0 and 31.6 and having the smallest one and shimming the other two makes sense. Given the price of the thing and the fact that its a two minutes job to swap an external one about it makes sense.
.
Anyway, no issues with a smaller one and a shim (Thomson FWIW)

I bought a 34.9 Bike Yoke revive for the Enduro, it's a step up from mist droppers

I use a 27.2 post in my surly, with a USE shim.
Works fine, no issues.

I’ve got a 30.9 AXS shimmed into 31.6 for exactly the same reason as you, it was the only one available, been waiting 6 months for the 31.6 to come back into stock but kept getting pushed back.

I've run a couple with shims before and never had any issues, although it was 31.6 to 30.9 so just a slither.

If you are thinking about AXS and can justify the expense, get one. They work so well and are so easy to change between bikes.

I've got quite a few options on droppers thanks to silly buying and the AXS is by far the best I've ever used. It's also the only one that had to be replaced under warranty, so not all smooth sailing.

30.9 and 31.6 droppers use the same size internals and are the size they are because the seat tubes pre existed them. The 34.9 came about from a desire to make enough room for a dropper.

If I was building a dream frame, it would have a 34.9 seat tube with a plan to put a bikeyoke in there.

I run a 30.9 AXS reverb in a 31.6 tube with a USE shim, and will be running a different 30.9 AXS reverb in a 34.9 seat tube, again with a USE shim whilst I wait for a 34.9 one to arrive (end of April apparently).

I've got a 31.6 150mm AXS and recently built up an S-Works Stumpy. I pondered buying another in 30.9 as my missus inherited the 150mm version.

In the end I just went for a 34.9 One Up in 180mm as I wanted the more drop.

The Reverb AXS was really good, but I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. If I had the choice and the money, I'd still have another though 🙂

Running the X Fusion 170mm x 34.9 in the Enduros, Stumpys and Levo SL.
Don't feel the need for any more drop yet.

If I had multiple bikes, I'd buy the 30.9 and shim it for each frame.

170mm PWN dropper in my 34.9 enduro, just picked up a 210mm one up to try and squeeze in (170mm will be for sale once One up fitted)

I was intrigued by the reverb AXS but not enough drop at the moment.
