So, sold my FS last year and have only got my mki solaris now. I'm surprised to say that I miss the dropper! I'm no enduro-weapon, but I am aware of my butt-seat interface!
So what to do? I like the look of the brand-x ascend (price related! Looking around for a new FS!), but do I go external or drill the frame and go stealth?
NB - I got the frame used from a friend, no idea of its use/history before...
Wwstw do?
Cheers, paul
I used a 150 KS Lev with external routing on my old Mk1. It needed the 150, too... only time I’ve ever caught my shorts on a 125.
The Lev always used to be my go to largely because of the cable joint box that gave you external routing but no annoying cable loop when dropped. So far as I can see the BrandX does exactly the same. With that interface available, I’d not piss around drilling to be honest.
As above, had a KS Lev on mine as well, but with the deals on brand x just now, i'd probably go for that if i had a choice now.
I’ve got the external 125 brand x ascend on my Soul 26 and it’s great. I did upgrade the seat clamp to a bolt up one with a cable guide to keep it all tidy. There is a tiny amount of play in the post - since new but it does not affect it at all in use and has not gotten any worse. The latest lever design is fine and it took only minutes to fit. Anyway, cost me about £80 from CRC with one of their regular discount offers, so can’t go too far wrong!
Brand X all the way, have one on my Hybrid which is used for transporting the boy around
The new external routed ones have the cable running from the base of the dropper section rather than the head of the post, along with this they have a new 1x lever which works much better, the inner cable's head runs from the post and you clamp it at the lever using the grub screw, works great! only downside to the Brand X is its a little slow to rise compared to other droppers and there is no way to make it faster
I have the external Thompson one on mine. Works brilliantly but would rather have one with a fixed cable
