Put this dropper on my Patriot, zip tied the cable to the top tube. It now looks like when the post is down the extra loop of cable is going to foul the tyre when the suspension is compressed... Is this a common problem?
You could try a dropper specific (not really sure specific is the right word but you'll know what I mean) seat clamp, or make your own loop out of two cable ties to put round the seat tube just under the clamp. Also, how close to the seat post have you attached it to the top tube? If you do so too close it might hinder the cable moving a bit.
You need to spend some time with cable ties and experiment with different attachment points. There are lots of different ways to try it. Some between the rear stays, outside them, along the top tube, down to the bottom tube etc.
Try them all and see what works. It will take a few cable ties to hold it all in place along the way. Use a cable tie around the frame, and one inside that to form a loop to let the hose pass through freely.
Or you can give up and buy one of the cable free droppers that Magura have just launched. Ive got one on order as I hate the hose and dont want the faff of internal hoses.
I have it so the cable loops round the seatpost and compresses in a slinky-like fashion instead of sticking out anywhere.
Trimix : What price?/When do you expect to take delivery of your magura dropper post?, could you post up your thoughts on it after a few rides.
My old bike suffers from that.
I just fitted one to my new bike this morning using a hope seat post clamp with a cable router in it and 3 BBB BCB94 hose guides on the top tube. None of the guides grip the cable so it can move freely. The cable gets fed forward when the post is depressed increasing the size of the loop at the bar end.
I'm pleasantly surprised.
5e I like that idea. Will investigate dropper specific seat clamps.
Somafunk: I hope to get it this week, it was going to be early Feb, then that slipped to late Feb. Now its early March.
I will do a review and pics as soon as I get it.
(comes with a 5yr warranty, so Im not too anxious about being one of the first)
