I'm replacing the drive chain of my hardtail. It's completely worn out as it's not been replaced in 5 years. The build was a bit of a bodge job from the original builders and it's got a deore 9 speed triple crankset that was setup with a double slx front derailleur.
I have bought a 10 speed 38 tooth chainring, as I wanted to go to 38 tooth and was confident a 10 speed chainring would work with a 9 speed setup.
My issue is it's got a large drop pin on it that I didn't realise was there from the description online. It will hang over the inner cog a little. Is that going to be an issue or will it just slip past the pin when the crank is rotated?
If it's an issue should I just hacksaw it off?
The drop pin should go on the outside, next to the crank arm. It's to stop the chain jamming between the chain ring and the crank arm if you over shift.
Ah ok, that does make sense. It's time for a new bash guard then.
