I'm guessing this is as good a place to start as any, whilst there's possibly a better forum for drop bar stuff but I doubt it's much better and it certainly won't be as good for bodgey things. (And wherever it is, I'm probably not a member either)
For one reason and another I've ended up accumulating a few magura brake calipers. I'm aware of folks sticking shimano flat bar levers on them and I'm wondering if it might be a useful cost saving exercise in trying to build up a new road bike.
Has any one tried or know of someone who has shimano (105 or ultegra probably) hydro shifters with mt calipers? My Googlefu has failed and only turned up a few threads about three posts long and basically along the lines of

Can’t help sorry - I have asked this before as I’ve looked to replace leaky rs685 flat mount calipers with the Magura flat mount ones. Be very interested to see how it works and whether you get any more useful replies than mine 😁
From what I can tell the Shimano road callipers are basically the same as the twin pot MTB callipers, so in theory it should work. Give it a go and see what happens.

I think that's where this is going to end up but I'm oddly reticent about it on a road bike.
I guess it's because for some reason I'm much more keen for my brakes to work in traffic than when I'm throwing my self down a hill.
Am sure I read of pro roadies doing something similar no? Didn't Chris Froome swap callipers? Or was that just pads...
edit: yep, Chris Froome running MT8s until sponsors had a word and explained to him that discs were the future and he'd better start pretending to like them 😁
