We're driving from Ypres to near Leogang and need a stop over for an evening. We're in a camper van with a couple of bikes on the back, so need a campsite or somewhere secure.

Just looking for somewhere interesting for an evening, and maybe a couple of hours the next day. Doesnt need to be bike related - food and beer related is fine!

cheers

No problem. It's a 20 minute walk along the river into the town. The site is nice and quiet, has a bar and there's a fresh bread van every morning.
If you've got kids, there's crazy golf close by and the town is worth a wander. Wine growing region so a few to try.

Can't help with the camping side of things. But on a similar journey we stopped over in Karlsruhe for the evening. Interesting enough place for a few hours and it seems we crashed the town's 300th birthday party.

I would be cracking on till at least the Swabian Alb between Stuttgart and Munich. You want to at least get past half way before stopping? If you can get to Ulm then it is still a 4 hopur drive next day. Have a look at sites around Blaubeuren near Ulm. Very nice part of the world.

Here perhaps (though I cannot give a review, just a google result)?

Yes makes sense WF, I should have mentioned that Karlsruhe was our stop on the way home.

We're now staying in Garmisch for a few days, so Bernkastel-kues works in terms of breaking up that journey. But Ulm looks interesting. Good to have options.

cheers
