So, anyone clued up on requirements for a hire car in Croatia (which is not part of the EU)? Permits/licence/photo driving license/additional paperwork? There seems to be lots of conflicting information on the Internet when researching it.

We just took our photo driving licences as normal. They didn't even want to see licences for additonal drivers.

There be new rules for hiring cars with a UK licence as the paper part has been abolished. You need to get a code from the DVLA which you give to the hire company, apparently without the code you cannot get a hire car. You will still need your driving licence card as well as the code from the DVLA. The code is only valid for 3 days from the DVLA.

This came into effect on the 8th June 2015. 😉

Code is valid for 27 days now I believe, rather than just 3.

seems to be only the small car hire cos that are bothered about the "code"

avis and enterprise give two shits IM(r)E of hiring cars.

took my license and my credit card . told me my wife was insured to drive it but did not check if she had a license- seemed more bothered about lying to me to try and get me to take their 15 quid a day waiver fee......

Was there 3 weeks ago, hire company just interested in photocard, they said it is the police who require the DVLA code thingy if you get stopped have a problem etc...

They asked if we had it but weren't bothered either way.
