Long story short, i have a useable xt cassette salvageable from a week in morzine. 😳 I quite fancy swapping to sram since i have the opportunity, i take it i cant retain 1x10 with sram shifter/mech/chain and reuse shimano cassette?
if not any decent deals on sram 1x10, pretty sure my hub wont take 1x11

You can retain the mech and shifter and bung a 11-42 sunrace cassette on. Then get a 30 or 32t front narrow wide ring (they're 33% off at superstar) add a new chain and you're done.
If the hub is 10 speed it will take shimano 11 speed no worries
Shimano 10 cassettes work fine with SRAM 10s Mechs/shifters, and vice versa
You just can't mix brands of Mechs and shifters (for the most part)
Shimano 11s cassette will fit a sntandard freehub, and you can use SRAM 1x11 kit then - but SRAM cassettes are the best bit, with their range

When i said salvageable i meant...
Chain snapped 1st day (front break dead too as an aside) it was on the way out anyway
Ripped half the shifter off on 2nd day in a lttle off
Gear cable snapped last day meaning had to single speed. Instead of shortening the already repaired chain i stuck with it which meant
chain got wedged alongside lower jockey wheel and cassette so ended up removing chain and cable tieing mech to frame
mech fell off at mid day and is borked
on the plus side it was lots of fun riding without a drive train maintaining speed etc 😆
so yeah really cassette and chainring (NW) 😳
hubs are Spank Spike Race 28 27,5" if that helps
