Just fitted XT M8100 drivetrain, all new, Hope pro 4 free hub.
When spinning the rr wheel backwards the cranks are spinning backwards and there is a rumbling when pedalling

Someone just had similar problems with SLX on his Trek Rail. Is the silver drive-side spacer the correct one for the Microspline freehub?

His was new too, but I think they had been converted from new, but the wrong spacer was fitted.

What drive side spacer?
The one fitted to the crankset?

If you spin a wheel backwards it won’t freewheel, so the cranks will also spin.

dont know what would cause a rumbling noise on 12 speed, but I’ve had a similar sound coming from the chainring with new kmc chains on a variety of aftermarket 11 speed rings.

Rumbling could be b-screw?

Yep it’s normal for cranks to spin when pedalling backwards as the hub can’t freewheel.

It’s more a problem if the cranks are spinning when your freewheeling.

Have you threaded the chain correctly through the rear derailleur? i.e. so the chain isn't rubbing on the dividing tab between the inner and outer plates.

Thanks all, i had described it wrong, cranks were spinning when freewheeling which is obviously bad.

The spacer hadn't come out when removing the hyper glide driver, so it had 2 in there when the microspline driver was fitted, now sorted.
