Having got a flat on the commuting bike last night, I discovered that my front wheel has a presta only hole in the rim - its a Mavic 231 (i think) rim brake type.

Can I drill it wider - is this sensible?? or will I have a taco crisp before I know it?

Ta

You can drill it and it'll be fine, but why not just buy a Presta tube?

It's fine, 8.5mm drill bit & clean the burrs off afterwards.

Stan's always recommend drilling the outside of the rim for their kits and I've not heard of many deaths as a result.

Having said that, can I have your bike?

I've been doing it for YEARS. I've honestly lost count of how many rims I've drilled. It's a tiny fraction if metal that's removed and as long as you file it smooth after there's simply no issue. 🙂
