If, say I wanted to run the brake hose through the frame, like some of the new fandagled frames do and I drilled a hole in the top tube a couple of inches from the seattube and another in the headtube to run the brake hose through the top tube. Would it weaken the frame too much.
Its a steel 29er frame, to be used as a rigid SS, so it would never be doing big drops etc.
It is intended to have grommets in the holes too to save the hose rubbing on the frame.

Ta

Well.

If you're going to drill, drilling in the SIDE of the tube is better than the top.
The top tube/seat tube one is ok(ish). The one in the headtube sounds more worrying.

Why bother?
Pros: It'll look a little bit neater

Cons: Increased risk of frame cracking
It'll be a massive faff to feed the cable through there

It just doesn't seem worth it. Why would you even consider it?

Shirley if you drill the Head tube the steerer will get in the way of the cable? No?

I did a couple of races with this hole in the frame before I got it repaired.
http://andrewhowett.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/mending-carbon-frame.html

Just had some duct tape over to kep the water out. It's on the top of the downtube, about 3in from the seat tube. It's only wee but went all the way through.
No ill effects at all. It's carbon rather than steel.
I think you'll be fine. If it were me I'd go in the side of the top tube for the brake, come out near the rear dropout if you can feed it right through and down the seat stays. Seal the holes well to keep water out and consider chaffing damage to both hose and frame.

Yes it would. Didn't think of that doh!
IF I do it it would mean drill ing top tube near the head tube and the seat tube, so I won't bother.
Just another hairbrained idea of mine

Zip ties are made for brakes, don't faff with cables drilling holes or worrying otherwise about them, they are there to be zipped onto the frame and ignored.

I think it'll probably be fine. But I think it's still a bad idea...

Too much time on your hands Bernaard 😛
What you need is a new frame to build up 😀
