This is a very subjective thread, I've had the pleasure of riding a couple of dream build, XTR-everything bikes, but sometimes the hassle factor of say, snapping a spoke in an exotic wheelset makes the day to day reality of a superbike a pain.

If money and spousal understanding were truly no object, then I'd be looking at an Ibis Mojo complete with nu-skool Lyriks or DVO forks, XTR drivetrain and carbon rims. The stopping duties would be taken care of by Hope, along with the finishing kit, cranks etc.

But it would all be on the proviso that the geometry would be perfect, the suspension sublime and the bottom bracket something sensible - i.e. with threads.

A ti version of my Solaris, some really s****y wheels, 1x something gearing, that Bluetooth Thompson dropper when it comes out and carbon kit to finish. That'll do me.

If we're going for full suss carbon wonderbikes I'd happily take a pivot 429 trail with trimmings.

Nicolai Helius. XTR, Custom brakes for a big bloke, likewise nice wheels that can cope with Alps or everyday use here in very wet Wales- DT Swiss win. Sapim spokes. Good wide bars. Stem- take your pick, loads of excellent choices, just go for a 4 bolt faceplate. Pedals- again, very personal but Time for me. Grips? Depending on intended use there are loads to chose from. FWIW the silicon grips I used in the heat in Les Gets/ Morzine last week softened so much I might as well have had them removed and just used the bare bars.

Nobody's said hand-made yet.

I'd like a nice light carbon HT made to fit my little legs.

One that, literally, flies.

To all those wanting enves, are you sure? They are a royal pita. Want to true a wheel? Tyre and rim strip has to come off. Everyone thinks you are a **** when they see you with them, for whatever reason. While the warranty/crash replacement is good, they are silly money so you almost have to break one to get your money's worth. Stiffness is not the be all and end all when it comes to rims.

I speak as an owner of 2 pairs (bought close together). Id have to have a pretty compelling reason to buy them again.

Dirty rider. They aren't. Lbs had 4 goes at sorting my front after it burped. I have a tube in there at the moment.

MTB = Turner Burner
Road = An Enigma fast endurance geo

I'm (really) incredibly close. This is what I've got:

[img] [/img]

Chromag Samurai65.

In my ideal world:

- upgrade hubs to Chris King, maybe.
- upgrade XT to XTR, maybe.
- upgrade fork to 350NCR Titanium, maybe.
- upgrade cranks to RaceFace carbon, maybe.
- add Schwalbe Procore.
- have a custom respray (including fork legs) each Spring.
- have a mechanic pop round every month or so to change the cables, bleed the brakes, replace the pads and tyres and do a fork service.

The things that stop it being dreamy all the time are (i) nagging mechanical issues caused by laziness, and (ii) lack of inspiration to ride.

😀

EDIT: It has a black Spurcycle bell now, which is pretty much the icing on the cake. 😉

Yes if we are talking dream bike then a custom made carbon hardtail would do the trick, xc race light but with a nod towards 'trail' geo, h.a. Around 68 and designed for a short but not crazy (say 65mm) stem to give me perfect reach ans stability but with less front wheel wander than I have at present and designed around 120mm forks. Get some of those bos dizzy forks, 1 by 11 gearing, lightweight components, maybe an internally routed ks lev ci dropper

Mines probably the YT Capra Pro, it would compliment my 'garage' too with my XC rigid Carbon bike, heavily upgraded Whyte 901 and that.

Steel HT built by myself.
Made to take 100 mm forks, but I would have some ridgids made too, if possible make it able to take 120mm fork but not centered around this.
About the length of my 19.5" inbred but lower top tube (make it like a large BMX).
Good tyre clearence for 2.5" tyre with load of mud, 2.85" at a squeeze. Pannier mount should there be the need. Slot dropouts for SS compatability.
Two sets of wheels, one super strong one light weight. Stong rear wheel would have hope SS trails hub with howevermany cogs would fit.
Extra front wheel with dynohub.
Custom racks for when the need arises.
Selection of bars an stems depending on what I am riding.
Not bothered about the rest. TBH.

You know, what with all the ridiculous standards of MTB wheels, frame materials and shit, I had absolutely no idea what my dream bike would be when I finally got the dosh together to buy it. So I decided my 575 was perfectly adequate in a "it's fab" kind of way.
And went for a dream CX instead. Frame arrives tomorrow and parts are gathering around the house.
Ksyrium Pro wheelsm, Dura Ace cranks, plus this little lot

Pics will appear on the ... Tripster thread next week, no doubt. 🙂

New Turner RFX, with a set of those new Alchemist Carbon rims on DT240s, Fox36 up front, maybe that new Float X2 with the climb switch out back, Enve bars, Syntace megaforce stem, Lev Integra 150 dropper, Next SL cranks, XTR 11 speed with XX1 cassette, Vault MG pedals with Ti axles, Hope E4 Race brakes. Not that I've given it much thought.

As I find it difficult to dream so big that even if I had my dream bike I would still have to keep it for a long time and do the fettling myself.

A custom Built Carbon Fibre Orange Five copy for 26" Wheels, a tad longer and a tad shorter in the seattube than my current 18" two sets of Pikes at 160mm ( the spare as 26" may not be around long and a I am a bit breaky ) 1x11 xtr. Not bothered about the wheels so much so two sets of Hopes with carbon rims would do me fine :), One set with a Rolhoff. Finishing kit all carbon with a reverb dropper.

also a 853 hardtail that I had built myself.
