Just bought a roval traverse rear El wheel, apparently hub is a rebranded dt Swiss 240. Bearings are somewhat resistant to rotation!

Luckily I have some spare 6902 bearings for my heckler frame, and I'm hoping I can use the SC removal tool to take the old ones out/press new in.

Question is, how do I remove the axle? Any other experience appreciated!

Pull freehub body and end cap off. Hit with hammer.

You need a proprietary tool to remove the ratchet ring to get at the ds bearing (knock axle out towards nds)

You can't get at the drive side bearing in the hub shell without the rubbish Dt ring drive tool.
And yes as above axle goes out from right to left

I'm always to slow typeing

I have a nasty habit of cracking the ring drive tool despite leaving a dumy axle in the hub.

On the plus side that bearing under it Normaly last a lot longer than the rest

Ok cheers chaps, seems easy apart from the ring removal. Anyone have a link for the tool?

You can buy a copy of the DT ring removal tool on eBay but removal will need a very large bar and/or a vice. They can be ****ing tight!.

Pricey! Cheers for the links. Can get it up in a vice, no problem. Nothing currently on eBay apart from in the U.S., might consider taking it to a shop.

grease up the ratchets after? Dt Swiss branded stuff worth it?

Where are you? I have vice, tool and long bar at hand if you wish to visit Carmarthenshire.

The on;y bearing you need the special tool for is the one right in the centre of the hub-driveside hub body. It's very longlived as the hubs are pretty well sealed and it's a long way inside. All the rest are hammer jobs.

Thanks Ambrose, I'm in london village but appreciate the offer!

Will knock the axle out tonight and check if it's definitely both or just non drive side.

Out of interest, how long do you guys get out of 240 bearings? I have two bikes with 240s rear hubs, both around 5 years old with a lot of use. I periodically check the axle for play / smooth rotation (expecting to have to replace the odd bearing) but to my surprise they always seem fine...

A recent purchase from eBay, so no idea! Lovely looking hub though, I'm hoping it'll give me a fair bit more life as I'm happy on a vintage wheel size

A long time. I've only replaced about 2 sets, I usually sell the hubs/wheels/bike on before they go.

The ones in my road front hub are 10 years old.

Knocked out left side bearing- found it was brand new.., Reinstalled it properly and it's much better. DS bearing is little bit rough but not bad.

Previous owner obviously had a go and didn't quite succeed

Cheers guys

I have two sets of DT 240's, the older set are now 9years old and still on the original hub bearings. Admittedly they don't get a lot of use now, but for four years it was on my only bike.

I have changed the freehub bearings once
