Looking to protect the down tube on a carbon frame from rock strikes and the likes, what would you folks recommend?

3M copter tape is the best for what I here
But there are cheaper options
I bought large sheets of similar for my Orange 5 AM and
have not let me down
Purchased them through onlinebikes £ 10.00p

I have used several different options:
heli tape - worked well and is cheap, just replace whenever you feel like it. Will take a fairly big strike.
Carbon sheet - work really well but is expensive and a bit of a pain to cut. they cantake a fairly big stone strike.
Alloy plate - Works brillantly but adds weight and is expensive and hard to replace if you need to. makes a nice ping sound instead of a heart breaking dunk. These will take a really big hit.

None of them will take a full on frame breaker, the alloy will take a bigger hit but frankly its not really worth the hassle. Good thick helitape is what I use these days and it works great plus it does ad a load of weight.

I zip-tied some old tyre down my downtube to protect it from rock strikes on the top part of the mega qualifier last year.

(alu tube, on a socom, but it was taking a bit of a beating and I didn't want any dents)

Heli-tape down the full length, and a crud-catcher.

Looks like helicopter tape gets the majority vote. I notice at the cycle show that Felt had a down tube protector on their bikes, simulare to a Crud be lower down the tube ending at the BB.

Perhaps that would only work on an On-One?
