Also anyone got any experiance of the dorking road club that meet on sundays outside the sports halls?

Hi. The Dorking Cocks (after Dorking's emblem of course) are a fine bunch of gents. Mid week night rides. Good riders too. Drop the MuddyMoles a line and they will get in touch for you.

6:30 westcott is likely to be too early for me most of the time to be honest (A bit of research seems to indicate 'knowing about tuesday eve rides' have been switched to dorking cocks wednesday rides anyway!)

try these guys - very friendly bunch who ride Wed nights year round. Rode with them for about 8 months when I was working down there - good times!

yeah they look pretty good, just frustrating to have to ride up to Bookham first. any guesses on how long it takes on an mtb to get up to their start point from dorking? or does everyone drive?

A couple of us will be out this evening for a short/slow ride from the pub in Coldharbour this evening if that helps. My email is in my profile

Thanks michael, currently living close to reigate, it will be a few weeks before I'll be a Dorking local. Also looking at the weather I think i might just get a quick run out on the road bike tonight!

Titus, OK no problem. I'm Epsom way so drive over. We're normally out one evening a week, often varies which day though. Feel free to shout if you want.

if it's Hylands Garage I'd say 40 minutes from Dorking, via Westhumble and Bagden Hill. As said above the Moles are good guys. We do the odd 'cultural exchange' with them.

YGM re the rides starting from Westcott.

No (tho I mean to some Sunday if all my MTBs are out of action).

They throng the Burgundy and Black café in St. Martins Walk post-ride, so that's a good place if you want to meet them.

I shared some cock fun when they took me up the dirty track a few months ago.
I heartily recommend it for an excellent evening out in woods with strangers!

Moles night rides meeting point is probably about 20mins up A24 cycle path then A246 from Dorking. One of the regulars cycles from Dorking. More often than not they head south so you'll often be able to peel off near the end at Denbies or Westcott and be back in Dorking in 10mins.

Yep it's usually heading more over to Ranmore with the Moles so an earlier finish for the Dorking Moles. 7:45pm on Wednesday with us Moles. We have a few rides with the Cocks on Sunday am's. They know Leigh and Peaslake area better than anyone I've ridden with before.

Waves to Andy from Leeds!

Aside from the Moles there are lots of random rides going out from town at various times. Drop me a line (me email is in my profile) and I'll see if I can point you to a few of them. I'm just off the High Street. Generally, there are enough cyclists in this town that you'll find at least one or two neighbours who ride - there are about 7 or 8 mountain bikers in my street for example, and there are less than 50 houses.

I'm a Cock. 8) PM me if you'd like to pop out for an evening ride some time. There's often a small group of us heading out on random nights and a later start than 6.30 suits me.

There's also those guys who ride over Leith Hill on a Weds then retire to the Falkland Arms for a curry, so they could be an option too. (I mean to do that ride sometime too).

I may be out and about randomly - nothing planned, however. Likely off from next Tuesday-ish and available for the odd ride here and there.

Perhaps not the best conditions to go solo night riding, especially if there's no-one at home expecting you back.

I guess a dog walker would find you in the spring, but ID may be difficult once the badgers and foxes had had a chew.

Going out on Wednesday (15th may), 7pm dorking sports centre, just fairly local and taking it easy depends on who turns up, hoping to make it a regular thing

Anyone welcome

Hey Titusrider, the Cocks will be riding from Nirvana at 6.45 on Weds. I think you said before that was too early for you but you'd be very welcome. Alternatively, mail me if you want to know which pub we're heading for and we could say hello

From the sports centre?

That's where the roadies start from. Because it's good for the roads.

Just saying.

A couple of us have even considered turning up for a roadie Sunday ride, just to see how we do. But sanity has always prevailed so far.

Have a good one.

Forecast is wet for this evening btw, could well be our ride is a 'quickest route to the pub' one.

roadies on mountain bikes doesn't make for pretty viewing in my book!

As a side note has Redlands still got good trails and is it still quite 'sensitive' in terms of using them?

Redlands has got lots of lovely trails - it's always sensitive, don;'t let that worry you though, we'll go through the usual 3 year cycle where the old bill "gets involved*" nothing happens and then back to normal..

*apparantly riding around on bikes having a "word" with folk.. it's still a case of catch me if you can.

I ended up deciding I fancied some company so after nobody turned up I rode up to muddy moles meet point, only one of them turned up (dandy) and we went for a pleasant ride on the ranmore ridge, got shown a trail that ive been riding past for years and never done so all in all very pleasant (and didn't get wet)

@tonyg we were actually saying we should do a proper Cocks <-> Moles cultural exchange sometime. Personally I'm actually a Mole by birth but a Cock by residence.
