went to black mountain a couple of months ago and promptly dumped the bike in the garage and forgot about it.
dragged it out yesterday. headset seized, both pedals seized, bb seized, jockey wheels seized. not having time to order new bits i pulled everything to bits and dumped it in the sonic cleaner for an hour. after some wiggling i actually managed to unseize the bb. (x type) the HS (cane creek) is a bit gravelly but will do, and the pedals (vaults) one of the axles is knackered but will have to do.
the jockey wheels seem to seize up regularly and i got them going too.
so, recommended - sonic cleaner with some lyman case cleaner
not recommended - forgetting about your bike for weeks and only thinking aboutit just before you need it
hope wheels are fine and the aeris frame bearings all ok.
Or save the added expense and clean bike when it really needs it instead of leaving it...
I pretty much never clean my bikes (just let them dry and brush off the dirt) and I've never had problems like that. For the headset, BB, pedals, etc to seize, water must have gotten inside. Cleaning the outside of the bike won't help with that, you need to strip everything down and repack with grease if water has gotten past the seals. Washing a bike is more likely to blast crap past the seals than to do any real good IMO.
Any BB deep stream crossings lately? I'm with hols on this.
Garage damp?
