Just booked a few nights in Domaso as part of a bigger trip in summer. Not going specifically for biking but will have my bike with me. Anyone done any MTB here? I'm thinking the odd little ride from the door, a bit of winch and plummet when I can sneak out for an hour or two!

I've looked at strava heat maps but it's a bit messy and not really clear. Trail forks probably the answer but I don't necessarily want to upgrade to pro just for the one trip (I could maybe make use of the free trial closer to the time.)

Anyone with the Italy map downloaded take a look at Domaso for me and see if there's a wealth of trails worth investing in the full version for!?

I'm also visiting Interlaken and possibly somewhere in the Alps as well so the full version probably would be a sound investment.

There are loads around the hills behind Domaso, plus the gravel track around the lake on the Domaso side is good. You can pick up a mountain bike trail map at the tourist info Center that has some routes on too.

For Interlaken download the Switzerland Mobility app. Lots of trails and paths on that for free. The gravel track up to Lauterbrunnen is well worth a pedal.

From Domaso you're not far from Lago di Mezzola. From Mezzola you can ride/walk/drive up a gravel road and you'll find the Tracciilino, a small gauge railway blasted through the rocks to reach a dam back in the 1920s. It runs for several kms through tunnels and galleries with awesome views of the lakes.

Great trail back down, too.

Google Tracciolino mtb and you'll find lots of info, albeit mostly in Italian or German.

If you're away often it's worth it, although I say that as someone who signed up at the start and lives in a van so constantly finding myself in new places.

That's all great information, thanks all!

@alpin I'll look into the tracciolino - is it family friendly would you say? My 8yo (9 when we go) will have her bike with her, she's blue trail competent with a touch of red here and there! Will hopefully rent my wife a bike but that will likely be for lakeside pootling.

If you're looking for a guide in the area, I can really recommend this guy.  Perfect English and knows the area from Como to Livigno inside out.

@richardkennerley

It's a fair old climb up from the lake, nigh on 800m. However, you can (for a fee) drive up and walk/ride from the station.

Not sure if your kiddo is happy riding with 200-400m drops to her side with little to no safety barrier/string (least that was the case when we were last there pre-covid), whilst having to concentrate on where the front wheel is going.  It's a nice walk.

The trail back down is fun and technical, but definitely not blue!

You could take your bike, have a stroll with family and have your missus drive down whilst you criss cross the road. Fun day out.
