Looking at planning a bikepacking trip this summer and looking at the dolomites as have done the french Alps a few times over the last few years and Switzerland is bloody pricey (coming from someone that's 1/4 Swiss)
Anyone done something similar to this? We'll (or maybe just me) will fly into Venice then catch a train to the base of the mountains and do a 4-7 day loop (depending on holiday length) then train back to Venice to fly home.
Found a few resources for routes but not a lot of info on longer linked up routes so any pointers here would be amazing. Also I know it's strictly not allowed but anyone had issues with wild camping in the Italian dolomites when remote/higher altitude? Anticipate well be using campsites every other night or so but like to do a few wildcamps for fun!
Did this last summer and it was awesome, apart from a lack of gears and legs on my part. Had intended to stay in refugios (at altitude) but found a convenient campsite each day so didn't need to. Used bikepacking.com website for basic route + took maps + improvised.
I started and ended in Innsbruck and rode from there. Loved it and will be back this summer.
This might not be what you're after, but I'm doing more or less exactly what you've described this July with Pannier cc

I'm almost wetting myself with excitement!
I have done some motorcycle touring there, and all I can say is fabulous area to explore.
Yeah, I think that sets the dolomites as the location, just need to plan where to go!
I,m doing the Veneto Trail in July looks good!
I’m lucky enough to spend a lot of time in the area around Monte Zoncolan due to my wife coming from there. Get yourself the TabaccoMapp app and you will be sorted! They also do paper maps, I got mine off Amazon I think.
