I am looking to construct a box or basket to take a jack Russel on my bike. I intend to get the dog to run cross country but would need to carry the dog on roads. Has anyone built one or bought one for this purpose?

at the moment I’m unsure of front or rear mount.  I can see pros and cons for both. Any photos for ideas from experience would be appreciated before I start fettling too much.

I'm interested in this (and was going to put up a topic this weekend). I have a Jack Russell/Dachshund cross and was wanting to carry him on the front if possible.

Met some guys in Les Gets this summer riding greens and blues using a Buddyrider. It mounted on the seatpost facing forwards, with pooch sitting supported above the toptube, between the riders body and the bike. System worked well they said.

I was looking at 'front' backpacks for dogs as mine is little, (about 6kg) but I was and still am a bit wary as if there's a problem the dog will get a head tube /handle bar in its face..

The buddy rider looks interesting though as the dog would be able to bail as its not strapped in as such ..

I was was thinking something along the lines like this.

The basket can have a removable floor, for the dog to stand on. When the dog is running, I can stick the floor inmy backpack and then still get good visibility of the front wheel and ground. Only having a frame still attached would be less rattling around too.

My parents did that with our Jack Russells while touring round Scotland. You do need to the them in though to prevent them jumping out!

As I only intend to use it on the roads, so too and from rides, I think these bike be good.

It should fold up enough to fit in a backpack too.

I hired a bike out to a lady who had asked for a basket on the front she turned up and was pleased with the basket she placed  a cushion in it sat the dog on it and attached the lead to the handle bars! She set off and approaching the first gate she grabbed a handful of front brake dog fell out dangling by its neck twas quite funny she came back after riding 40 yards
