You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I have a 29er I've used for cross, road touring and xc. If I could get a lighter version it could replace my road bike also.
I want a frame (pref S/H) with: clearance for up to 2" tyres (2.4" would be ace), mounts for racks, light as possible (current one is 1.8kg, surely 1.2kg is achievable?). Disc mounts obvs and suspension fork length, indifferent to material but I'd expect I am looking at carbon.
Don't want to be restricted to bike packing bags.
TIA!

How much are you wanting to spend, as only carbon fibre will get near that weight (even in smaller sizes).
That weight is pretty light - I recently picked up a Dolan GXC carbon gravel bike frame and that’s probably (frame only) around that weight. My caad 12 disc alloy road bike is also only just sub 1200g.
The Dolan has all sorts of mounts on the forks / frame for mudguards and racks and bags etc. I’m not sure in mtb land if you’ll find a hardtail that light that also has the mounts you want. Most light xc frames are for racing so barely have any mounting points.
Maybe someone like carbon wasp could build you a custom one?
Either that or pickup a gravel frame and some of those very short travel rockshox gravel forks perhaps? Depends how robust your xc riding is really
Cheers both. I briefly owned a Scott 26er which weighed 1.2kg in a large. I appreciate lightweight and rack mounts don't usually go together but thought I would ask the hive mind.
Anything light in aluminium is likely to be pretty flexy with touring kit on.
Rivnuts? (I'm not kidding).
Ti Fargo
If weight is an issue then you are going to fit a carbon tailfin on anyway so you don't need rack mounts ☺️
My whippet is pretty light and I bought the selcoff forks with the mounts to go with it. Takes 2.4 tyres and is around 1200g for the frame I think.
It's also a great with 27.5 3/2.8 wheels on as well
600g will make naff all difference to road bike speed. is there a reason you want to save weight?

You did say 29er.
And the Ti idea, my 456Ti was 1.75kg in 20" and from what I've seen no modern TI HT will get close to that as they've now strength standards to worry about.
Salsa Cutthroat?

Yeah, the Ti B+/29er frame that Brant got together for me weighs in at 1.8kg - and that's a 17"(ish) frame.
Aye,I think a Cutthroat(or Warbird) would tick a few of those boxes. You've done a bit of loaded touring Al,so you know the weight worries get less once you are 'comfi' and have got something that fits. 👍
@intheborders a 29er frame Shirley doesn't need to be much heavier than 26? Only a few inches of thin tubing.
@5lab I know theres no difference to speed, but feel? Seems more worthwhile to put some light tubeless road wheels on a 1.2kg frame than a 2kg one.
@avdave2 thanks I'll look at Whippets.
More leverage on a 29er though so all the bits need to be stronger.
If you're happy for the rack to be on permanently just bond something to a carbon frame? Most Scott stuff is sub 1kg
Why???? Didn't you get the memo? Your supposed to have n+1, not 1.
Scott Scale purchased, 1.2kg, updates will follow
scott made a 949g scale frame
