some knackered overshoes
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Over-Shoes-/201350560115?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ee16db973
why do people bid on this stuff?
Because they don't know the cost of the item (or equivalent) when new and they think that they are getting a bargain.
Whilst there are (or perhaps more correctly *were*) bargains to be had on ebay it now is little more than a commercial marketplace with the occasional group of amateurs holding a car boot sale in the corner.
All bids will be donated to charity "Cancer Research"
Perhaps this has something to do with it?
Read the description.
"Useless good for nothing overshoes in need of slight repair. Not worth wearing unless you wish to look like a Tramp. Modification to zip arrangement is very annoying and makes putting shoes on and off hard. Requires a small amount of TLC and needle and cotton or just chucking in the bin. All bids will be donated to charity "Cancer Research" so get bidding, including carriage. Shoes not included"
Apparently, everyone is in on the joke apart from you two 🙂
why do people bid on this stuff?
Have you actually read the auction? It's basically a humorous charity auction (see the comments).
...although people do bid on some right rubbish!
Q: Very interested if you can describe exactly what these are used for? Postage is a bit steep, can I collect from Rowland Rats castle?
A: They have many uses, I like to leave them by the back door for everybody to trip over. If carriage is an issue and you win then I can put them straight in the bin for you.
Local to me. I could collect!
😆
