You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
? or is it custom only these days? im thinking 26, 135 rear, 1 1/8 ht (or poss tapered) but with more modern geo.
I have ton of very nice bits that work but won't fit mire recent frames
alternative is refurbing an old frame.
Stridsland, in steel or Ti. Not sure of stock though. As and when I think.
Edit, not particularly modern geo, but they look a laugh.
Reckon custom will be your only option for modern geo too.
An older frame can definitely be improved with a slackset (I used a 631 Slackline with a 2' angleset and it was a big improvement but far less forgiving than a modern 29er) but you'll always struggle with top tube length and seat tube angle.
Cotic did a 26" Bfe with modern geo until recently - maybe try and find on second hand
Can I be the first to say (because someone will) sell all your old tat and buy a new full bike. Everything on it will work better than even the best stuff from years ago and you'll have a much easier and more enjoyable experience.
I've got the headlights, tail lights and steering wheel from a 1975 Opel Manta but I'm not trying to find a car to put them on.
Er, I disagree. I have a 'modern' bike (well 5 year old spark) as well - I would say the actual components are about the same in terms of function vs my old 'tat' - which is ck / enve wheelset, hope & raceface everything else and sid worldcups. Selling will equal not very much money vs pain in the arse dealing with people vs nostalgia loss of getting rid of my old xc race bike
Does a slackset fit in a 1Â 1/8 headtube?
Old frame is a charge duster nowt wrong with it really, except tatty paint job and feeling a bit dated. Was thinking of hanging the frame in the workshop
Other option is I completely pimp out my kids bikes when they get to 26ers, which will only be a few years now

Can't think of anyone mass-producing a 26" trail bike still, I'd speak to a frame builder - modern geo is great but is designed to work around bigger wheels. I hazard a guess that there would cirtainly be aspects that would need adjusting to suit 26".... BB height, wheel base would change etc.
I won't mention the Scott Spark, but please don't use it to gauge the performance of something you could buy today, probably with a hefty discount.

You're onto something there. Those old Charge frames look nice so stick it on the wall.
Honestly I think the best use for old 26" mtb stuff is for building sick kids bikes. There's loads of kids around here riding high spec, old bikes, and the best thing is that they actually fit. Bikes like that were designed for tiny people, we just never knew it at the time.
I agree with @sharkattack - use the bits to upgrade your kids bikes into blingers, and treat yourself to something new!
It sounds like you like steel, but I bet even something available relatively 'budget' at the moment (heavily discounted alu Specialized for example) would be a revelation to ride compared to your old charge.
Look out for an On One 456 carbon, about as modern geo as any 26" HT will be, and takes tapered forks.
A few for sale on eBay at the moment.
Custom I reckon, you casnorder a Marino and spec all the old standards (or new) you want.
Maybe take the Geometry from something like an Explosif tweak Head angles and seat post sizes?
Could be a fun way to waste your disposable income.

But about the most unpleasant bike you could ever want to ride! Some how built to take all the joy of of a trail but transmit and amplify all the noise.
sid worldcups
80 maybe 100mm travel? That's xc race bike territory and no one has built a 26" one of those since long before modern geometry.
I can't really imagine a bike being much better than my spark tbh (its a 900RC), not sure the 'tweeks' of the last 4-5 years mean that is not a good bench mark. Its rapid.... I am a bit of a scott fan boy though, I have a carbon scale as well (bought for racing, replacing the duster and eventually retired for the spark)
And yes I love my charge, its still a good looking bike, but I agree it feels very 'small' now compared to my newer bikes. bought a medium too, as it was all about ;chuckable' bikes back then
I should probably sell my older bikes, but I'm a bit of a hoarder and you get bugger all second hand.....
I still have a mark1 nomad frame in the loft too.....oh and a dmr sidekick!
Kids are going to have some bling bikes in the next few years!
100mm travel. Also have a pair of uturn pike 454s and 180 domains hanging about. But they are proper heavy.
Are dirt bikes still the same geo or have they been 'modernised' too?
Other option is rebuild the sidekick for the boy (and me) to have fun at southampton bikepark. Although that way lies broken bones.
To answer the actual question, Curtis will build any of their bikes to that spec, as will BTR. You might be waiting a while though.
Totally with Sharkattack, ditch the old tat and treat yourself. Stop being granite 😉

Ok, you're trolling us aren't you? I'm calling it. Troll!
Cotic 26 bfe on FB. Nothing to do with me but might be of use
