I have a rival 1 groupset on new bike and wondered whether a 11-46 cassette would work with the Rival Long Cage mech? Anyone tried this? Thinking of switching out my 42t front chainring for a 44t and the 11-42 cassette for a 11-46 to get a bigger range. Before you state the obvious it's to give a wider gear range that I want for when I'm carting my boy around steep hills near me on the nursery drop off run. Bike is a Planet x full monty sl.
that sounds like an expensive way to get a very marginal gain at the top end. The difference at the low end is tiny. Personally I'd keep your cassette and go to a smaller ring at the front for child lugging capacity and just enjoy freewheeling when you hit 25mph. YMMV etc.
Yes, it works.
All of the SRAM 11 speed mechs designed to clear a 42T cassette will clear a 46T with just a small B-Screw adjustment.
I'm currently running an E-13 TRS plus 9-46 cassette on a Salsa Fargo with a Rival 1x mech, no problems.
