So I am selling some forks. Some punter with zero feedback (been signed up since Feb 2019) has made multiple bids at 3:40 this morning to get to highest bidder. Based in Norway. Worth blocking him?
Don’t talk to me about eBay idiots. Sold a P7 to two different idiots who couldn’t afford it. One claimed he’d forgotten he’d bid £1000! When I resold the next buyer with no purchases didn’t have the money either and just wanted to come round and negotiate a fair price as his bid was too high and he only bid it to win it! You couldn’t make it up. Be careful out there.
Or my latest one. Buys a pair of handlebars. They get delivered (tracked and shown to be signed for by household) and by amazing coincidence, within 10 minutes of delivery, he opens a dispute with PayPal saying he never received them. Oh, and he had been posting on local Facebook market sites asking for free bike parts. Should get the PayPal decision tomorrow but am not hopeful. Will keep an eye open for him reselling them and then report him to the police.
OP I’d block, it won’t be worth the hassle - especially with international postage.
In the postage bit you can set it up to exclude certain contents/countries. That way you should only get bids from countries you want to sell/post to, It should also block people outside those areas you blocked postage to from bidding
It's under 'Create exclusion list' in the postage section when you create a auction.
Sold some forks at the weekend. No sooner had the auction ended than I got a request to cancel the sale. Not heard back from the second chance offer I sent out either.
If in doubt, block them out. I think I need to tighten up who can bid on my stuff.
Don't forget the first rule.
I would first mad an effort and try to contact prospective buyer.
Be courteous, ask if it is genuine bid, explain that current climate is putting some shoddy types on ebay and so on...
Had 3 or 4 cases like that. 2 proved to be genuine buyers, 2 proved to be time wasters. Genuine buyers bought, paid and we are both happy, time wasters are blocked now 🙂
Cheers!
I.
eBay won't let you automatically block low or zero feedback bidders anymore.
You can delete any bids you think are suspect though and add bidder to your own exclusion list.
Really? When did it changed? I was able to block people 3 or 4 weeks ago. Any people...
Is that very recent update?
Cheers!
I.
I tried to block them when I was selling a car a few weeks ago - nowhere was there an option to do it - none that I could find anyway.
And dodgy buyers just have multiple accounts where they have purchased low value items to get feedback.
Sold 3 bikes on ebay, and had loads of stupid offers, no money what can you do, offered it to them, then they never picked it up. More stories like that. Kids Ridgeback, was willing to let it go for £30 as we bought it 10 years earlier for £50 used then. Went for £120 and new owner was delighted as it was in good condition. Next two bikes I just said, if you want it bid on it, good luck.
Contacted bidder. Not satisfied by his reply so blocked him. Interestingly enough, the second highest bidder (with feedback in the 1000’s) then withdrew his bid. Tinfoil hat ready.
If you've got tracked postage you should be fine - this has got a lot better recently
Can you use eBay's Global Shipping service or is that just for business sellers/shops? If you can you just post them to eBay in the UK and they look after getting them to Norway or wherever.
Hmmm. Now another zero feedback bidder has appeared based in Turkey. I wonder if someone is attempting to push the price so high that nobody else will bid & then withdraw at the last minute.

This is why I sell on FB marketplace. Maybe I’ve been lucky but sold a lot on there and usually get a good price. Plus it sells quickly. Always buyer collect though which puts idiots off
This is why I dont bother with auction on ebay.
Buy it now only, I accept offers within a reasonable range. Cuts out a bunch of faff.

You still get numpties though.
Sold some brakes as BIN last week, buyer still hasn't paid, and is waffling on about waiting for a new bank card.
If you didn't have the means to pay (not that I'm sure I believe him) then why buy it?!
And yes, I did set it as 'instant payment required', but that doesn't seem to have made any bloody difference!

Tick the Immediate Payment Required option and that problem goes away. I moved to BIN with Immediate payment many years ago and it is now much better selling stuff with no time wasting.
I have to set the price but I just set it based on recent sold prices and most stuff sells within a few days. If I have an item that is not selling I just reduce it each week until it sells.

I'm sure I did! But he still hadn't paid 😠

Yep, gsp is easier and safer than shipping in the UK in my experience.

Bid what you're willing to spend, get out bid, move on and bid elsewhere. I'd be politely withdrawing my bid in the same circumstances.
I’m sure I did! But he still hadn’t paid
You didn't. With Immediate payment required ticked they cannot "win" the item and it stays listed if they don't follow through with the payment as they checkout.
I've got a set of wheels on there at the moment as an auction which finish over weekend, this also gives me time to find a suitable shipping agent.
Some guy with a feedback score of 1 messages me yesterday asking for a buy it now figure, I reply it's auction only and not shipping till Monday, he then replies back within seconds 'O dear your loss cant bid need yesterday for work'.
I've had enough time wasted over the past 6 weeks or so with purchases from Business users, at times I wonder why I bother

It seems I didn't, but I always (normally!) do.
It's doing it through the mobile app, it's a bit crap 🤨
Anyway, logged a non-payment so he's got until Saturday.

Classic sellers trick - have another account (or a mate) that keeps putting bids in until you go over the second bidders 'maximum' then back off one bid. If he's seen the bid history it'll look like that to the other bidder, so no wonder he's withdrawn his bid.
