front wheel washed out and then dug in downhill bucking me over the front. Wasn't quite as bad as this but rim was heavily dinged and tacoed, and when i tried to straighten it just enough to be able to even wheel it home, it just broke apart.

Might have a try at rebuilding my own wheel - anyone recommend me a decent (strong, non-folding) rim. And anyone have any idea on the hub dimensions for the On-One MAX adaptable hubs, so i can calculate spoke lengths, etc.

Seeing as the wheel is rather dead I'd just strip it down and measure the hub rather than getting many differant answers on here

No need to strip a wheel to measure the hub FFS.

Just get a rim with similar spoke bed and re use the spokes.

touch wood, first rim I've tacoed that badly in about 15 years of riding. There was no riding this one out though.

I'm just glad there was no major damage - sore neck and headache from the face plant, cut nose and split inside of cheek, and the ribs aren't right but unless I'm super gnarr they aren't bad enough for any real damage.

Spokes aren't reusable, half are bent beyond repair and I'd sooner replace them all.

On-One have the spoke lengths handily on their site, and yes I could get another On-One rim or one with similar spoke bed but after this I'm potentially looking at something a bit more sturdy.

I have the same wheelset :/ been good so far... If I were you I'd contact on one and ask about what to do. I'm sure they'll help you out somehow

Get a rim with similar dimensions and tape it alongside the old rim as a guide then get spoking.

Yep, club ride, on Watership Down (on porridgepot, not the real Watership Down)

We duck taped the split bit to cover the sharp ends, put a tyre and tube on, zip tied the tyre over the bit where it obviously wouldn't go into the rim, and it looked passable to wheel it at least. But the buckle was too much and the tyre was rubbing on the fork and wearing paint fast, so i took the tyre back off and wheeled it on the rim.

That's where the trouble started; when I got to a nice flat sports field I thought I'd try riding it. Always the optimist - I made about 50 yards before it buckled completely and I went over the bars again (not quite, I was ready for it), but it made me laugh so much I think that's when i really hurt the ribs. Turned into a long carry / wheelie push. If i could wheelie properly, that would have been impressive.

Have emailed On-One, asking if they want the rim back for finite element analysis. I think i've found its finite lifespan.

Bad luck Jon. Shame to ruin a ride as it was a great day to be out with hardly any mud.

We passed you carrying the bike along the singletrack by the sports field and stopped and said hello. Obviously that was before you got back on - very brave!

Brave. Had to be tried, result was somewhat inevitable.

It's always at the furthest point of the ride isn't it

I've not had breakfast yet, but I fail to see a reason why the OP wouldn't strip the wheel down? Look at the state of it!

I normally don't have an issue with re-using spokes but we don't know how much the rim was bent / spokes were stressed, and if the spokes are of the same quality as that rim is (LOL) then I'd get new spokes.

On one wheels, great hubs awful rims. Mine died a similar death as well - tacoed beyond repair.

i wouldn't worry about building with a really strong rim if i were you, i think the On-one ones are just weak.

we don't know how much the rim was bent / spokes were stressed

Pic doesn't show it properly but if you look at the wheel as a clockface (and the clockface is inclined away from us) - from 9 o'clock to 4 o'clock the rim is 'straight'. At 9 o'clock it's kinked towards the camera so that in profile 6 o'clock is about 6" out of line and the intersection of the two broken bits is about a 45 deg angle. Some of the spokes down the bottom are bent almost 90 degrees.

You can straighten and re-use bent spokes.

Under slightly more controlled conditions than these bends were created. I'd rather scrap them and start afresh even if they [i]probably[/i] can be reused.

CRC have some Sun Ringle rims fairly cheap - EQ27 from memory, 19mm inner bead. £18 ish.
