Oh. That may have burst my bubble somewhat. I thought the forks alone were worth half that....

My very rough calc based on plenty of classified / eBay second hand purchases and various frankenbike builds....

Frame 90
Forks 190
Full XT 100
Deore brakes 50
Stans wheels (on OEM hubs) 90 pair
Bar / stem / tyres /finishing kit 60

Closer to 600 assuming good condition.

Maybe as parts but you'll never get that for a full build, not when it isn't that 'special' a bike.

Pay what you think it's worth. You've given us the bear minimum of detail, so no one can really gauge it. £400 sounds low to me.

400 is way too low. I'd be asking 650 if it were mine and accepting 600.

I bought a similar full bike for £500, it's worth more if you split it for parts £600-£700

Sorry should have said it's a scandal, not an inbred. All in decent nick.

If it's in decent nick and a normal size you may well get around 600 as Scandals are well liked and no longer available (at least last time I looked.) You'd probably get more for parts too.

He's buying, not selling.

It's all complete finger in the air stuff, you know the detail. We don't, so it's utterly pointless listening to anything that's said.

fox float with remote lock out

A 3 year old Evolution with scuffed stantions, or a brand new 2015 Factory RL FIT Kashima?

Full XT 100

1993 groupset, or 2014?

Stans wheels (on OEM hubs) 90 pair

OEM DT 190s on Podium MMXs? Or £15 cup and cone on Rapid rims?

Etc etc. Offer what you think it's worth, if they suggest a counter offer then consider if you want to pay that. If you do, enjoy the bike, if you don't move on.

It's all 2013, but I take your point.

Though I don't think it was "utterly pointless".

Thanks for the input chaps.

Eh? Oh I see. What njee says then! Guess it depends on how much you want it. What's the seller asking for it?

It's all 2013, but I take your point.

Obviously my point my slightly tongue in cheek, I didn't really think it would have a 20 year old groupset, but point still stands, the difference between even the forks and the wheels, not to mention the condition ('decent nick' is rather subjective) are all going to have a significant effect.

I think £400 is too cheap though. If you can get it for that, you're sorted. If you were thinking of offering £12,000 then you've dodged a bullet. The answer is somewhere in the middle.

I just think a thread like this has the potential to ruin the bike for you, a bit like weighing a bike. You obviously had a figure in mind that was a lot higher than £400, so from the first post you're now thinking that you're overpaying, which has the potential to detract from the bike, despite the fact you obviously had a price in mind you were happy to pay.

njee20 - thanks for your input, and I agree with the sentiment. Similar to the old saying "It's worth what someone will pay for it".

TBH, 400 wasn't a million miles off. The chap wanted £800 and I've offered £650. It comes with a few bits, so I'm happy.

I buy bikes so infrequently (tend to ride things into the ground) that I get a bit nervous when I do actually come to shelling out dough.
